New start to life and I have a million questions

Recommended Posts

I'm 5 dayz out from my bypass. I have been drinking veggie broth, chicken broth, but yet to try beef broth. I have been reading about gaining ur sense of smell. And dam I guess it's true. Cuz the smell of my fridge makes me gag. After over a week of drinking the same thing, I find myself not eating. I have tried the Greek yogurts and we'll I got sick of it fast. I do have the privilege of having someone to talk to that's close to me about wat to expect. My cuz had it done 3yrs ago and lost over 100 pounds. And looks good. But i wanna try new things but is it to soon. Like Beans. eggs. Etc. I read bake beans are bad but black beans are ok. Then read sugar free ketchup is still ok. Please help I'm way new to this and never expected it to be so hard. But i know wen u talk about it to people who have success it will boost my morale.. so any suggestions.

I was told by my doctor's nutritionist: I would be doing post surgery, two solid weeks of only Protein shakes and Water to allow the pouch to heal. So for right now concentrate your efforts on that Protein. I can't remember the amount right now

@@Beni thanx. I know my cuz said there's an awesome Protein they sell at target and costco. So I guess I'm gonna get on my game with it. I do know that alot of stuff makes me wanna gag. That's kinda why I'm in search of something new. I had some meso Soup with nothing but the drinkable stuff. Ohhhh man did that help.

I'm 11 days post-op and am definitely tiring of the same foods. My surgeon is very conservative when it comes to advancing foods. I was only allowed Clear liquids the first week after surgery. Since Wednesday, I've been advanced to full liquids and will be for two weeks. I've been "eating" strained cream Soups, greek yogurt thinned with skim milk, Protein shakes, and lots and lots of Water. I'm not allowed pudding or cottage cheese. After the full liquids, I'm on pureed/mushy foods for another two weeks. I cannot wait to get to the mushy stage. LOL. For some strange reason I've been craving tuna and egg salad.

Hang in there, it will get better.

Hat does your plan say? Most are liquids only for two weeks, it seems like a long time but in the whole scheme of a life long journey it's very short... let your body heal and don't rush.. GNC has a good ready to drink Protein called Total Lean, Premier Protein is good, also carnation sugar free instant Breakfast is good, I lived off sugar free hot chocolate with a scoop of unflavored protein for my first two weeks lol

I was able to eat pudding since the 2nd day after surgery (I added powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder too) Isopure Water frozen into popsicles is good for Protein too. I am trying to keep an average of 80 grams of protein daily (WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN...it helps so much!!!)

I also craved egg an tuna salad! I was able to start them both after 1 week, but opted out of the egg salad after 1st try.

So, since 1 week out...tuna mixed with reg mayo and heated slightly with some shredded cheese is my friend now, as well as pureed chicken (in a can like tuna), mixed with pureed Tuscan-flavored broccoli (frozen Green Giant in a bag), and mixed with cheesy salsa. So good and has an actual flavor!! I also have marinated, baked chicken breast and chopped it super fine with scissors and mixed with some reg mayo for a chicken salad with flavor.

With all that said...I feel like I'm dong something right...I had surgery 9/10, so I'm 17 days out now, have managed 3 Multivitamins, 4 Calcium, and a B12 every day since 1 week out...and as of today I have went from 310 lbs immediately before surgery to 274 as of today! 36 lbs in 17 days...YIPPEE!!! It's not easy...but soooo worth it every day! Good luck everyone!!

Man all this info is great. I feel like there's hope now. Most people I know hate tuna but I love it. I never have been a picky eater. Guess that's why I was so fluffy aka loveable. Haha. Well heres an update. 2 weeks before my surgery date which was Sep. 22 I weighed in at 284. Plus I'm 5'8. Anyhow that same day my dang kids broke our scale. So until yesterday I hadn't weighed in. We'll I'm pleased to say I did so yesterday. 259 baby. I believe that's 25 pounds. The only sad thing is I have to get rid of all my clothes now. We'll not just yet but REAL soon..

How was pain in the first week after coming home? Did you take any meds for pain? Which ones?

I was told I should have no pain just soreness at which point I thought, right and the Easter bunny is real!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
