My RNY surgery Oct. 13,2014

Recommended Posts

The liquid diet prior to surgery is honestly the hardest part of the whole ordeal. If you can make it through that, you can do anything. I remember my wife saying I was a cranky mess for the whole week and biting everyone's heads off. It will pass and sooner than you think. Then it is on to enjoying the rest of your amazing life.

I would honestly say if you are not seriously attached to anyone prior to surgery to avoid getting involved at this stage in the game. You need to take then next several months to focus on you and what you need to do to accomplish your goals. I know if you do, you will do amazing. Not having outside distractions makes adjusting to your new life a lot easier. Once you feel comfortable with how you are handling everything a few months out and your weight loss is well under way, then for sure start dating. One thing interesting that you may find is that when you get further out from surgery and a lot more active, what you are looking for in a significant other may change drastically. (Such as activity level, interests, etc.) If you are a lot more active you might not like a sit at home and relax kind of person you may find attractive now as an example.

I wish all the best with your surgery. I know you'll do amazing. Congratulations on this step and welcome to the beginning of the rest of your amazing life. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to get in touch with me. I included links to get a hold of me below. If there is anything I can do to be of help or encouragement, just let me know.

I tried to go without pain medicine so I could drive but I feel everything. I can't stand the pain. I'm shaking with pain. Aches, incisional, gas, back, every pain. Hit me like a brick wall. #imnotready.

I woke up this morning on my stomach. I have no ideas how I got there. It felt as if my stitches were stretching. And the pain meds had worn off. I may weigh myself today since I'm 1 week out. Please tell me it'll get better.

Stay off your stomach and prop pillows if need be. I'm a stomach sleeper and it sucks. I feel your pain. Two weeks out and I can sleep on my side without pain. Layers of sutures are in each site so if you tear inner sutures you won't know until you bruise or get abnormal pain or discomfort. Be paranoid enough to be aware of how you sleep. On day two I went to ER to get one patched up

oh well I would hate that and the other thing is I'm so used to getting on the floor with my kids I laid down on the floor and then I had such a hard time trying to get back up it was pretty bad. It's like me a good five to seven minutes to get off the floor. My right side is definitely easier to sleep on my left side because my Loveside is where the largest incision was which is about a centimeter

You have to be more careful girlie! You need to baby your tummy and your incisions while they are still this fresh. No getting down on the floor because like you said getting up is nearly impossible! I support the pillow idea, I actually slept in a reclining chair for the first three weeks because the bed wasn't comfortable, it pulled on my tummy and I didn't want to flip over so the chair was perfect. You don't want to end up back in the hospitals with ripped incisions so please please be careful!! Your kids will understand if you have to rest for a little bit and like everyone else has told you, it will be worth it in the end!

Thank you @@lptreg and @@Beckyyb93 it doesn't help that they found a hernia while they were in there and did a stitch repair.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
