I am so glad to read that other people have had this same pain I have. At my daughters birthday party two days ago, I had to get up and leave because my shoulder and ribs were hurting so bad. And this was 8 days after surgery. I can't figure out exactly when it's going to hit me, after I eat, before I eat, if I eat, or whether or not I am walking or not. It is

frustrating!

Oh Deanna, you took the words right out of my mouth! No one warned me, lol!

Today at work I had to walk over a mile! I guess that is God's way of telling me to get busy!!

Thanks for everyone who replied and offered suggestions or just shared the misery :D It is day 6 and today was horrible. I am not getting my liquids in nor my protien. I finally called the Dr today but was told just to take something for nausea. I didnt make it through the whole day at work...close..had to quit at 3:30 instead of 5. Maybe tomorrow will be better but right now I am wondering if I made the right decision. My stomach is so swollen......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Thanks for listening to me complain.

Remember, your diaphragm was stretched in this surgery. It is not ONLY gas. Your doctor did quite a bit of digging around in the area and it will take time for some things to heal. Think of your diaphragm as a stretched out T-shirt. It doesn't just snap right back. It will take time. Are you using the incentive spirometer to breathe into? Are you walking every single time you think of it? The shoulder pain could come and go for weeks after your surgery. Some of us even had instant pain in the shoulder or lower rib area while eating too quickly or getting to that 'stop' sign time of eating. Your body will be talking a whole new language to you, but I promise, this too will pass. Keep walking!

Thanks for the kick in the butt Leatha. I was doing those things but maybe not to the extent of what I should be. So I changed my stinking thinking last night and got up facing a whole new day with a new attitude. I really want to get better and get used to the band, learning how to work with it. Thanks again

Susan- it seems that we are at opposite ends! I am not really in pain anymore, but I AM HUNGRY! I did weigh today and I am down 10lbs for the first week. I am supposed to be on liquids or anything that will fit through a straw. I don't cook, so I really don't know what to try to eat. I am really upset that I am so hungry. I guess I will go drink more Soup, LOL!

My attitude stinks today. I think it is just from working with 60 women who love to complain!!!

Ok, thanks for letting me vent!!

Was talking to a friend tonight who said that when she drinks Crystal Light she gets gas...Susan

One thing to watch.....sorbitol. Sorbitol can be a HUGE offender and cause gas (and potentially diarreah). I have to read all labels avoid sorbitol in everything (my innaugeral experience with sorbitol was "Velamints"....brrrrrrr....it was NOT FUN).

Today was a lot better. I was up at 4:30 (not by choice) and got my expense reports done (always a good thing) and then took the dog for a walk, went grocery shopping, did some laundry, worked more in the office, did some drive by house hunting, took the dog for another walk, changed the bedding, another walk with the pooch, fixed dinner and only had one episode where the pain was bad enough to lay down for about 15 mins. Oh I did talk an hr out to watch Dr Phil LOL.

Part of my problem is that I am not a cook either. So I really dont know what to fix. I did cut back to more clear things today instead of creamy which seemed to help. My weight is down quite a bit but wont report that until I see the Dr on Monday for the offical weigh in (just to make sure my scales are right). I have been hungry these last few days but trying to deal with that. Its amazing when you cant eat real food what kind of smells you can pick up. I swear I can smell what the neighbors are cooking LOL.

Thanks for the advice on the Sorbitol. Not sure what it is but I will start looking for it Kacee. 4RE4ME- I tried the doggie thing...I guess it probably did help but I think its truely the moving around and walking a lot that really gets it going. Try walking then the doggie thing.

Ginger-I think its a good thing when we reconize that our attitude stinks but we also have to get out of the funk. I felt so bad yesterday and as embarrassed as I am to say, I truely walked around like I was an invalid. Heck sat in my outdoor lounger, with a blanket and a book. Which is fine....but not when I need to be up moving and trying to get better! So lets keep kicking each other along....we cant really move to the next step if we dont work on getting through this phase. Hang in there!! You also have 3 little ones, dont know how you do it...whewwwww.

Have a great weekend and Happy Mothers Day to all the moms. Talk with you soon

Susan

Susan- sounds like you did a lot today! After one week, I am down 10lbs according to my scale. Today was taxing at work, then I slept for 4 solid hours! I needed that nap! Shoulder is improving today. I watched dr. phil after work too! My kids have been great. They have so many people wanting to care for them (we are truly blessed) that they are ok when I am down. Our biggest problem tonight is that they napped with me for a while, lol, now they are wide awake at bedtime!

I am thinking of trying to sleep in my bed tonight. I'll let you all know how that goes!

Syrah, Funny you should say that... I did go to work Friday for a few hrs and had not taken any pain med since the night before. After I worked alittle I went to refill the pain med and after I left the store I was so tired I had ran in to the back of a very nice guy. LOL It wasn't bad and didn't do any damage to his truck but I have a nice little hitch reciever square on my bumper. I knew I didn't feel like trying to work. So if any one reads this you know how you feel and don't try to do any thing till you feel you are ready. Thanks for your concern Syrah. And Today I feel wonderful and things are great! Happy Mother's Day too All! Randaree

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
