Ummmm....I called around and got rates at all the gyms and took a tour of one. So....I'm planning to exercise. *Hangs head*

You are such a good role model, Betty. :) I will hop on that bike first thing tomorrow.

Shipped a box to you today -- oh, yeah -- weight lifting! :) Should arrive within a week. USPS

I will make a big effort to exercise tomorrow. :Bunny

Becky - You are such a sweetie! I have a hard time going to the gym, but I will come home and walk on the treadmill. I guess when it is time to come home that is what I want to do. I just can't sit down or I'm done. I'll look forward to your post tomorrow telling me you exercised! :):)

When I post here, it keeps me honest and makes me want to do it. So, thanks to all of you for making me just do it! :D

OK: didn't exercise today and probably won't for the rest of the week. You know just when I get on an exercise routine something happens to throw me off. I went to bed last night with an excruciating pain in my port area. I had on Lortab left over from my July surgery and so I took it. I got groggy but not sleepy and the pain stuck around. I did not get much sleep. The pain can only be described as this: It felt like I had just had the surgery and the port pain that goes along with it. Very muscular type achiness with occasional sharp pains that subside but never truly goes away.

I called Dr. Billy this morning expecting him to not get back to me till tomorrow. Then I get a phone call about two hours later and he is on the other end. I just love him. He said I probably pulled a stitch and that is what is causing my pain. I am using a heating pad and taking liquid Tylenol for the pain during the day and just gritting my teeth when I have to use those muscles in my abdomen which is all the time. LOL!!! NOthing much else to do at this point but to let it heal.

I will most likely not do anything strenuous over the next few days to give it time to heal. SIGH!! I hate this. I will probably gain at least a pound since I can't exercise like I want to. SIGH!! Only time will tell.

This really bites. I can only think of one thing I did that could have pulled the stitch. That was to lift a dining room chair. They are really heavy chairs. Oh well. Who knew?

Penni - Sorry you are having problems with your port. Get a lot of rest and maybe it will subside faster.

Marie - Great job!

Leatha - THINKING! I guess that would count for a little :) You did some exercise the day before, that counts better!

Great job everyone!

Penni, that sucks. I hope you feel better. Make that husband of yours do all the lifting, heavy or not!

I'm still in my dog-walking groove: at least 45 min. every morning at a good pace that gets my heart pumping. The big November rains haven't started yet, so I haven't had a recent day when I just want to stay in bed. I feel great, but that scale just won't go down! Oh well. I've joined the scale challenge, which is harder for me than this exercise challenge; I shaved my legs yesterday and had to stop myself from jumping on the scale to see how much I'd lost to the razor!

Penni,

Hope you feel better soon.

I know about pain in the port area. I was reaching into a shopping cart to get some screws off the bottom of the cart, at Home Depot and I caught to edge of the cart right on my port. Geeeeeeeez that hurt. Now my port is tipped up slightly and I think thats a result of the "Edge of the cart vs the port area confllict." doesn't hurt anymore but now my port is kind of visible when I stand up. When I look down I can see it stick out (along with other things I haven't seen from this view in many years)....

Get minds out of gutters speaking of my toes.

Well I feel MUCHO better this morning. NO pain. HOORAY!!! I even tested it and went for a 50 min walk (2.2 miles) at a much slower pace than I normally would walk. There were a couple of twinges of pain but nothing like it was. I feel some minor achiness now but heading to the shower and then back on the heating pad for the rest of the day.

Greg: don't let that go too long before you let the doc see it. My port was tilted and almost caused some problems. I had to have a port revision and make it lie flat again. The port being tilted isn't much of an issue unless there is pain or unable to access the thing. The reason to watch it is my tubing attached to the port was also tilted up and was sticking out. I will attach a pic here for a visual of what I mean. It was through the skin but almost.

This is an old pic and is all fixed now. My port lies nice and flat now. Easy access for the doc now as well.

Penni-hope you are feeling better soon. I understand your frustration! Did the doc say how long you would be down?

Last week, I exercised 1-2 times a day at Curves and then Friday night, I did something and hurt my hip. I couldn't lift my leg! I couldn't get in bed without help. All I could think was "dang! I hope I don't gain any weight back!" But-I am better now and carefully did my routine this morning -skipping the machines that might hurt my hip. I'm afraid to get on the scales!

Well Greg: You site looks to be OK. I just wanted to make sure you had it checked out. Glad there isn't anything sticking out like mine was.

Lauri: The doc said to take it easy for a couple of days. I felt so much better this morning that I was able to walk 2.2 miles. So I guess if I am feeling NO pain tomorrow I can resume my normal routine. I know your fears about gaining weight. I had the same thought every time I have to skip my exercise routine for a day or two. It freaks me out. But oh well.

Penni..Im glad you are feeling better today. Somedays my port bothers me more then others. I think it has something to do with losing the wieght. I seem to feel it more then I did 64 lbs ago. Maybe thats all thats your was with the BIG wieght loss this past week that you had :) I'm having mine checked on Monday..I m going to Tj with my friend who is flying in from PA for her fill, I was going to get another fill but I have got major restriction goin on these days and am still losing every week but with the pains I have been having I want him to look at it under the fluoro to make sure everything is where it should be, band included. I need peace of mind. We all are such worry warts with our bands aren't we? Glad the pain is gone for you.

I will not be adding any weights for some time. I have added plenty over the years that I am forced to carry-I sure as He** am not going to CHOOSE to carry around any more than I already have! ;-)

Leatha and Michelle- have you heard about the MICRO ports? When I went to a lap-band seminar a few months ago, they talked about how some people have more problems with their ports sticking out or being uncomfortable as the weight comes off and can now choose to have the ports exchanged.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
