Encouragement needed urgently!

Recommended Posts

Good morning all,

I just had my surgery the 16th, and am still in the shake phase, but today when I got dressed I was hoping for my clothes

to feel a little looser.

They fit the same. Sorry if I'm whining, but I don't think I've lost any weight, how can that be? Since I suffer severely from depression,

I don't know what my starting weight was, or what pre-surgery weight was. My first appointment is on my birthday, October second.

I am on the verge of tears my peeps. Some words of kindness would be greatly appreciated from this who have traveled this road.

I know there are so many larger more important issues going on in the world, but just had to vent and I apologize for being needy.

Thank you all for listening to this old lady.

You're fine! You JUST had surgery and your body is still recovering. It takes a while for the weight to come off. It takes even longer before other people start noticing it! It will happen.

You know how people say "the weight just fell off"? That's not exactly true and that is what sets unrealistic expectations!

You will lose weight but you will also have stalls where, no matter what you do, you don't lose a pound. And then, boom! You'll drop 5 in a day. It's a rocky journey but you need to learn to enjoy every step and stumble.

Keep following the plan, keep a food journal always, drink your Water, take your Vitamins, exercise (when cleared to do so), eat your protein--and it will all fall into place. It may be slowly, it may be fast, you don't know yet but it will happen.

Best of luck! Let us know in a few weeks what has happened--I bet your story will change by then.

I suspect that while you were in the hospital, you had an I.V. hooked to you. This pumped fluids into your body. As a result you probably left the hospital weighing more then when you first entered. It takes a few days for you to shed this added weight and get back to your pre-surgery weight. So give it a little time.

First of all, take a deep breath and calm down. I had my bypass on August 19th and I have suffered from severe clinical depression for 55 years (I will be 61 on Oct 3rd). I have been back to the hospital 2 times for severe UTI and gained weight with all those fluids they pumped into me both times. You WILL lose this weight. It's only been 6 days. Your body is still in shock and will be for some months to come. You WILL lose weight. In 5 weeks i have lost 30 lbs.

Are you seeing a therapist to help you through? I've been seeing one for the last 6 months to help me through this process. Plus, I have image problems I need to get through (I have lost 60 lbs pre-op and post-op, yet in my mind i see no difference ... just a very fat woman). But I am getting better. Depression makes this journey so much harder, but we CAN get through it. Stay POSITIVE! Stay COMMITTED! Get your weight taken and take measurements.

I may not see any difference in my body, but I know in my mind I have lost 20+ inches, and that keeps me going. I have started fitting into the clothes I have outgrown and that keeps me going. Other people notice a difference and that keeps me going.

Give yourself some time, hon. You didn't get where you are all at once and it won't disappear all at once. Be patient.

Drinking the shakes you can't help but lose weight. When you get further down the road you can start exercising, which not only helps with weight loss but helps you feel better, too.

If there is anything I can do or if you ever want anyone to talk to, give me a shout. We Libra's gotta stick together!!

(((BIG HUG)))

I had my surgery on the 16th as well. I have lost about 9 lbs since surgery and I'm sure you have too. I've been on nothing but Clear liquids since the day after surgery. Personally, my stomach is still bloated so I'm not expecting to notice a big difference in my clothes.

I think you should relax and follow your Dr.s recommendations. Stay positive!!! Good luck.

Thank you all for the kind and encouraging words. I've decided not to step back onto the scale until next week. Had a minor setback, completely my fault. Entered my darkened bedroom and tripped over my dog (Boxer), and landed right on my stomach. Just a tad sore today. Hopefully there'll not be any repeat performances.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
