Stomach so confused - 5 days postop

Recommended Posts

Hey there guys! Anyone else completely confused between stomach hunger pains, gas pains and fighting head hunger? Holy mackerel. ... burning out on shakes but will pick up sugar free syrups tomorrow. I so badly wanted to eat a tater tot tonight. Hard to fight the urges and re-learn eating. Thanks for reading my whine. :-)

My tummy pain hurts from mid rt in the Front of my abdomen straight thru to my back. The hunger however is more left sided and I can sip enough Fluid to stop it for a time.

Pains and disturbed sensations have calmed down considerably in under 24 hours. Seems like things are just healing.

I am 20 days post-op and things are getting better....still having a little trouble with gas pain . I am in the pureed stage but the Dr said I could have eggs and thinly sliced deli turkey and chicken as long as I chew. chew, chew! scrambled egg with small amount of cheese more tolerable :)

Hahaha! I had the exact same questions! I'm 6 days post op and SO over the liquid "food". Mom was eating an Italian sub yesterday and I seriously wanted to rip it out of her hands!

Guys - I found a way to make liquid phase a little easier... flavor extracts - almond, coconut, rum, etc. Also some of the broth based Soups, like Italian wedding Soup - drain the broth and drink that. I am going to get some miso soup today. Also - blend sugar free pudding mix into your shake... flavors like cheesecake and butterscotch. Yum!

What I havent mentioned in this thread was that I had developed acute pancreatitis ,which beside from being horribly painful it makes my sugar jump from near normal to 250-350+ range! Learning alot from you guys! Thank you.... :)

I'm 7 days post op and I am SO over this liquid diet! I could stand the shakes my nutritionist told me to drink, so I did some research and found some that aren't too bad! Isopure shakes are sugar free, 40 grams of Protein in one 20oz bottle! They make this liquid diet a little more bearable.

Yeah, that's a hard one. In the first few weeks, I learned just how close real hunger and head hunger are. I felt actual hunger from early out and still do. It's an empty feeling in my stomach..like I need to put something in there. I also have acid reflux and that feels like a burning but it doesn't feel "empty" to me.

Hope that helped!

I am 4 days post op, and I have had some serious hunger pains. I have been getting in all my Protein, but the more I drink these shakes the more nauseous I'm becoming. I thought I could maybe go on to the pureed stage. Even if it was for one meal, but she said he'll naw.

sorry you're having issues...my doc said no to the puree for 2 wks post op due to risk of leaks...I imagine yours is saying same. Hang in there. Have you tried adding unflavored Protein Powder (I use Unjury) to low fat cream Soup or Tomato Soup (I could have those after 3 days post op) If you can tolerate milk, I found this one in my local store called Skim Plus. Cal count is slightly higher than reg skim, but 1 cup has 11g of protein. Been making the Soups and shakes with that. Hope that helps! Janis

I was told that I can begin on Saturday. So I just went on, cause I need more energy and I was hungry. My stomach was beginning to hurt even while drinking the Protein Shake. So I believe it was more going on within. I am being very mindful. I am not eating anything heavy. I seriously was to make sure that I don't harm myself. But so far so good.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
