October Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

Welcome BypassMan, you just stumbled into the most dedicated WLS support group on earth. And in my not so humble opinion the "October Surgery Date" folk are the cream of the crop, the best of the best, the cat's meow, you get the picture! You don'y have to take my word for it, ask any of us, lol.

You are going trough a lot right now, wow and I thought I was having issues. Stay strong my friend

Beni.... You're awesome!!!!!

Great, the "Oct 7th bunch" is beginning to roll home. Everyone in "October" is reporting gas pain, some pretty bad. Please share anything that has helped you, even as silly as it my seem. Standing on your head? (Which you could?)

Suggestions so far X-gas strips

warm pad / heating pad

walking

Wishing you a speedy recovery and that the pain goes away very, very soon.

When I got home I took chewable gas x. This helped a lot. In the hospital they just give you warm blankets and held my hand. It helped to stretch out on the bed as much as I could. If I was in any sitting position or stomach bended it would cramp up and get stuck.

I found a picture of my surgeon, and prolly a few others are having it done the same, so I thought I would share. When I shared with my friends and family, they were all impressed. ROBODOC!

@@walkin'onsunshine,

My response to your "awesome", will have to answer with my usual - I know. I did say I was not humble, lol. But because in every garden some rain must fall. I have noticed my typing skills leave a lot to be desired. I type fast but now I skip letters, whole words, reverse order, it's a hot mess. It's almost like my brain and hands are not in sink. My sincere apologies for such poor writing, my English teacher would be sad. But then, I have been under stress lately. It's not everyday that you decide to go and get your insides all sliced, diced and rearranged into hopefully an artistic composition, right?

You got a really impressive thing going with that DaVinci machine. If I were you I would be very nice to it.

Funny story: When I was researching doctors, I ran into this doctor's website and one of the first things it said was that no, the machine cannot move by itself and only the surgeon could operate it. I thought it was so funny. I am sure he placed that there because people worried and he must have received a lot of feedback about it. It's just a tool like a pair of scissors folks. But it is very impressive.

I have another regarding the artistic composition I mention above. I wonder what people are going to think 20,000 years from now when our bodies turn up? Perhaps some will be in the kind of soil that preserves things. They are going to go, "what the F is that?" In any case, at least all our staples will still be inside of us. I imagine a lengthy discussion about the bits of surgical metal. Wonder what they are going to think it's for: jewelry, sacred amulets to ward evil spirits, this could be very entertaining.

Now on to more productive endeavours, got to get some work done. Ta ta cheers!

@Beni I always picture the surgeon like the great and powerful oz, behind the curtain, running the robot.

I know your getting your Water in so what about the total Protein? Could the lack of enough Protein be the cause of your headaches?

I've been getting in anywhere from 70-110g of protein. Yesterday was 69, and only 841 calories. I just wasn't hungry. So maybe I just didn't have enough protein for the day. I'll up it today a bit and see if that helps.

According to my Dr.'s nutrition handouts, I only have to get in 40g of protein a day right now, but I believe that's a minimum. It's ok if I go over.

I'm losing weight, so it must be ok! :P

I have to admit I haven't been the biggest stickler to this all liquid diet. But I'm still staying under 1,000 and I'm losing a pound a day.

Bypassman, I'm so sorry about your mom or dad. Rest assured a lot of us shared your fears before surgery. You are going to be okay.

Day Five- pain is a lot better - yesterday I asked the doc if I could increase my dose a little bit since a lot was coming through. Things are a lot more comfortable now and walking is much better. Slept lying down last night which was a nice change.

Finally pooped for the first time in 5-6 days, and didn't need any benefiber or moral ax assistance. Cannot express how great it is to know everything is working.

Definitely ask the hospital about drain care and bandages. Mine taught me how to empty the drain but not how to change the bandages- which became necessary last night when they got wet. I'm actually kinda pissed that they didn't change the bandages while I was at the hospital. Apparently I was supposed to get a kit with gauze and instructions but it never happened do my husband ended up doing a CVS run last night while my mom and I played M.A.S.H. in the living room.

Still not getting in all my Water buy I'm really trying. Got maybe 40oz yesterday. Today my only goals are 2 walks outside and all my Water.

Very very stressed out from the pain- ended up being a bit of a brat to my mom whose been kind enough to come stay with us and take care of me for a few days. Ended up apologizing but still feel bad.

@BypassMan---So glad you've joined us!! My surgery is the 20th, so just a week before you. I'm like you, I can't believe it's happening until I'm in the recovery room!

So sorry about your parent, that has to be hard. We're here for any venting or support you need!!!

My Dad doesn't know I'm having it done yet. All I'm going to get is judgement from him, so I'm waiting until the very last minute to tell him. I could just wait until after I suppose...but I need my mom to stay with my kids, so he'll know something is going on! Haha!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
