I totally feel what you are saying. I my stomach was always growling anf I felt like I was starving myself too. It was no fun at all. At week 3, it has changed. I don't know why but it did and I am glad. Did you try blending some chicken with your Soup, like cream of chicken soup?

@@motherof5 I haven't tried blending meat into my Soup bc it didn't say to do that in my instruction, so I was trying to stick to the rules...I've blended brocoli cheddar soup and added light sour cream, chicken stock and strained beef stew.

I'm seriously considering going out to get my favorite Crab Bisque today and blending that, Not exactly Fat Free but oh well.

OH I know that I was just saying the amount that I get for the day and I sometimes find my self hungry so I have the warm tea to curb it.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

@@flipper20 I'm on full liquids only right now, so I can't eat any of what you listed except for the Protein Shakes and tea of course.

Hi Baby

Sorry to that you are feeling this way...I'm having some issues ...first of all I can't sleep! I'm up until 5 am then crash til 7 and that's it....I'm feeling some weird mild cramp every time I drink..no matter if it is warm or cool..I'm not that hungry but feels like growling hunger girgles...I'm my taking Nexium...also had a hernia repair..I wasn't feeling these things when drinking until today and my surgery was on9/8.

As for food around this house..there is plenty of it and it smells so good...I'm my can't wait to have a scrambled egg..my husband sat here and ate buttered popcorn the other nite! The man could eat whatever he wants his whole life and isn't over weight.

I'm sure once we are able to have something of substance in our stomachs and feel satisfied this will all pass. This is a hard phase...hang in its going to be ok...:)

Not going to sugar coat it the first days suck! Really suck. And I used to hate these words........it will get better. Lol. But it will and you will go on here and probably type those exact words. Lol. Hang in there.

Honestly I was starving the first week after surgery. It probably didn't help that watched a lot of the food network all day lol. My surgeon moved me up to soft foods on week 2. My first

'Meal' was a scramble egg and I could only eat about half. Just hang in there and try to stay busy with other things.

Halloween - I was starving the moment I woke up from surgery and it may have been from acid, but food made it stop hurting so I believe it was a combo - anyways I couldn't take it after about ten days out, so I started adding 1/4 cup cottage cheese in and it made such a difference. I'm not saying you should go against your doctors plans, but I think it's important to listen to our bodies since we all heal at different rates. I also started soft food three weeks out, I'm 7 weeks out and don't have any issues.

Seriously I don't want to complain about this surgery, It's what I wanted and did it for a very good reason.

I'm 5 day's out and on full liquids I feel like thing's are falling apart and I'm just trying my best to hold it all together.

I'M STARVING!!..I've gotten in all 64oz of Water and 80grams of Protein and I'm so hungry I'm about to crack!

It doesn't help that my husband decided it would be an awesome idea to bring 2 large pizza's into the house for himself and my small 4 year old daughter that will only eat 1 slice, But yet he thought it was necessary to get two after I told him to get one..This isn't head hunger. It's not acid reflux or the need to drink more Water, this is stomach eating hunger..

Taking my pain pills and wrapping up in a blanket for a long night's sleep, At least I won't feel hungry then. Hopefully..

Hi there Baby...I've been reading your posts for a while now. Please don't be discouraged. I too get hungry and it has been that way since about the 5th day post-op. In fact, I broke the rules on the 6th day post-op and had yogurt and cottage cheese and refried Beans with melted cheese. Not saying you (or anyone else) shoud necessarily do that, only that the hunger is real and I feel you.

There have been many times over the past 4 weeks that the rest of the family has been eating something really good..like hamburgers and french fries and yes, PIZZA! These were formerly two of my favorite meals. It's hard to sit there and smell it and want to have it, especially when you are truly hungry. I would sit down with my low-fat pot pie Soup and eat that. When I would become full fast, it would remind me that even if I wanted what they were eating, there was no way in heck I could even get down a portion of any of it. Other than that, I had to just walk away.

They asked for chocolate chips Cookies the other day and I was going to make it for them. But after some thought I knew if I did, there was no way I could stop myself from sampling some Cookies. So I just didn't go there at all.

As my mother always likes to to say, this too shall pass. Good luck to you!! I know you will be successful with each pasing day.

@@HaddocksEyes I wish I felt full..

Since coming home I've been able to get 64oz of Water and 80gr of Protein in each day no issue which is great considering...The issue is I can literally sit and eat a whole 4oz bowl of Soup and not get a sense of fullness, Yes it takes me forever to eat it but at the end I'm still hungry.

I'm on full liquids now and yogurt was included in that on my nutrition packet so I did almost a full cup of Greek yogurt today and that actually helped hold me over for a longer period of time then any of the cream Soups did, So I plan on eating that for a while.

oh boy I so feel your pain! Im 3 weeks out now and life is getting much better. 3 Weeks seems to be the magic time... you start to get your life back! That first week was so traumatizing for me. I cried and cried. Thought I ruined my life! But as soon as I was able to eat "real" things like refried Beans, oatmeal, etc, life got better. Last night I ate some sashimi from our favorite sushi place... sashimi is super soft and went down beautifully! I felt like I was on cloud nine! I ate 3 pieces and was stuffed! I still cant believe it.

Also, that first week I never felt full or any restriction from my sleeve either. I was convinced that it wasnt working. But everyone assured me that I would feel it once real food came into play and sure enough, thats the truth. Yogurt is too much like a liquid and it just slides on thru... wait til you have some tuna or something like that, 1/4 cup and you're stuffed! its crazy!!

Yeah, you're not going to feel much restriction on a liquid diet, even a week out.

Liquids move on through pretty fast.

Just keep hydrating.

And relax. :)

While I'm glad to hear this is a normal thing to be experiencing, I can't wait to get over it and move on to the soft food phase so I can feel a little more comfortable..

Three pieces I'm so jealous! :) I went to Boston Market today for some rotisserie chicken. I order the three piece assuming I'd at least finish a drumstick, and have the left overs for later. After four little baby bites of the drum stick I started burping and you know what that means, the sleeve has spoken. I was so devastated that I couldn't finish that drum stick, it was just getting good!

@@HalloweenBaby24 I'm two and a half weeks out and when I first got sleeved I didn't get hungry as of four days ago my stomach has started growling every two hours like clock work. I'm on stage four, so three tiny bits later I'm completely stuffed. It's frustrating, because I feel as If I should be eating more. It's like my body is playing a cruel joke on me; hungrier than a bear every two hours, then stuffed like a turkey after three to four tiny bits. It's like we're learning all over again, once you're on more solid foods you'll start to feel full - hang in there!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
