SEPTEMBER 2014 POST-OP SLEEVERS CHECKING IN!

Recommended Posts

I found that when I started to consume "real" food again, my brain wanted to eat more and I did not really appreciate a "filled" feeling. That one extra bite led to "sliming" and then throwing up. I found early on, just measure 4-5 ounces and eat slowly. Then wait, if you feel good, eat some more. It has worked so far. And, as someone who was sleeved on 9/24, the real food still needs some form of "lubricant" at this point, whether gravy, sauce, mayo, etc.

I am going to a kickboxing class tonight. It'll be the most intense workout I've done post surgery. I'm a little nervous... I might wear my binder just to keep my stomach supported.

I dont understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm eating exactly what I'm supposed to. Getting my Fluid. Getting my Protein. 800 calories a day. And I haven't lost a single thing since October 3rd. I'm so discouraged. I'm really starting to regret this decision. How do you fail at weight loss surgery?! :( :( :(

I have been in a stall since October 10th. I agree it's so discouraging. The scale just doesn't move. I see the nutritionist next Wednesday, hopefully by then I will start losing again.

Sleeved on 9/23 surgery day 307 today 274. Doing great I do sometimes still get tightness in my chest with eating some foods (or may be that I still eat a little too fast) and it also happens with certain fluids. Espically plain Water.< /p>

I've only lost 2 pounds since October 6th. I feel exactly the same as you. I log every bite I eat and am usually around 800 calories (sometimes a bit more or less). I did go through my food journals today and I've been short on my Protein a few days but I have a hard time believing that is the issue. I've been exercising regularly too. I feel like I lost faster than this before surgery. Very frustrating.

I've been the same way. I lost ten the first week after and have stalled. I was sleeved on the 22nd. 250 at surgery and 240 currently. I feel like we paid so much money for me to lose 10 pounds. I am discouraged by seeing everyone losing 40 pounds when I've lost 10.

@Danie1114

At least this isn't just happening to one of us. There must be a reason for it. Maybe we'll be late bloomers and the weight will start coming off in month 2.

Ok not sure what to do, everything I eat now I am getting sick from, it doesn't want to stay down and I also feel like I can't eat it again. Any suggestions on what I can do????

Try a baby spoon. It's weird but it forces you to take smaller bites. ????

I'm in the same boat with you all. It's nice to have some support when the tide is low and we're stuck in the sand. Stay strong and we'll see this through.

I imagine that after 10 months we'll look back and laugh at our silliness. ????

I'm right there with you all, my scale hasn't budged in a week, but I had lost 40lbs since 9/1 so I can't complain.

Also, It's physically impossible not to lose weight when you are consuming less than 1,000 calories (I haven't even hit 600 yet!) so hang in there!

Sleeved on 9/23/14, lost 18 lbs quickly and then stalled which is ok. I know my body likes to lose for 5-8 days and plateau for 3-4 weeks depressing but in the 3-4 weeks my body changes a lot.

ie- I got a new ring and when I received it 4 days post surgery it was starting to move on my ring finger, not it fits on my middle finger most days unless I am retaining Water ;-). My jeans that I couldn't get into pre surgery and that were very tight post surgery now fit comfortably.

I am lucky I know from my band the patterns my body likes to lose in so I am a little more relaxed about the loss... it doesn't make getting on the scale easier but I don't freak out.

I am happy with my progress, I was cleared for work this week, working out and travel again which is great for me since I was losing my brain hanging out at home.

Good luck to the sleevers and start looking at the way clothes and rings fit too.... and remember we all are very different and we lose differently too.

So I posted this new topic but thought it might help some of my fellow Sept Sleevers:

Sorry for the TMI, but I thought it would be useful as I have seen this be a popular topic of discussion for the newbies. I am currently 4 weeks out of surgery (SD 9/30/14) and while Constipation pain and strains have not been a major issue for me so far, I have found myself not having BM as often as I used to pre-op and it has been bothersome. Anyway, after attending a support group meeting, where my doctor and a veteren speaker were present, the speaker indicated that Fiber gummies are a staple in her diet, even 2-3 years post-op. I immediately went to Target and bought a generic brand. It has been a week and I can now say that my BMs are now more consistent, more often, no straining AND I see the difference in the scale as well. I take 3 gummies a day and get in about 12 grams of Fiber in a day, which is much more than I have on my clear liquid, full liquid and pureed diets.

Just thought it might help others struggling with this.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
