I first want to say hello. My name is Cayce and I went to an information session on April 18, 2007. There I filled out a packet so that the hospital could get the ball rolling on the insurance. They said that I would hear from them in 1 1/2 to 3 weeks depending on how soon my insurance company was. Anyway, on April 26, 2007, I received a call from the hospital to set up appointments. They said that the insurance covered the surgery. I was so excited. I have my first consultation visit on May 21st and my 2 hour pysche test on May 23rd. In the meantime I have to get a letter from my doctor recommending the surgery and something to say that I am able to go through surgery. I went to my primary care doctor Thursday, May 3. She agreed that lapband surgery was the way to go and that she would get the letter for me. She also wanted to do an EKG before she signed the other letter. Low and behold the EKG was abnormal and now I have to have a stress test. She said that she didn't think that it was anything to worry about just preliminary. Anyway, I hope to get all of that situated in the next week or so. I am so ready to start a new life. All of this red tape is very discouraging.

Cayce, congratulations on getting the ball rolling.

Please don't get discouraged about the red tape. Basically it's either jump through the hoops or pay for it yourself.

I'd rather jump through hoops!

I appreciate the encouragement. It gets rather discouraging at times. I am in hopes that my doctor schedules the stress test next week and everything turns out okay with that. I don't know why but I am a little worried about it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
