11weeks out Sick & Depressed!

Recommended Posts

It's been 11 week post op.

I have lost 42 lbs. I should be feeling great and enjoying life!

But no! I'm on my second round of antibiotics for C-diff. I'm sick and depressed because I'm in pain and tired of feeling this way. I was told I caught this because of all the antibiotics I was on before surgery. I feel like it's bullshit! I go Into a hospital health. Then leave with an infectious Bactria infection. Anyone like me?

Yea, i'm only 3 weeks out but have been back to the hospital once with severe uti and dehydration. And it seems like every time one pain disappears another one shows up. I am supposed to start gym this afternoon but I got a hot knife in one of those rny holes. And I am so tired and i just want to crawl back into bed. I am excited with the way my life is changing, but tired of being tired and hurting.

I know Peggy!

I'm tired everyday.

I keep telling myself it will get better.

Just sick of being sick with something I caught from the hospital.

The one place that's is supposed to be clean! I get Cdiff from a hospital!

Sorry you are having issues. Cdiff is a common infection to get at a health care facility. I am only 1 week post op and just got discharged again. Was readmitted due to my bowels not functioning correctly after surgery. Hoping for a smooth recovery from here on.

I don't know where people get the idea that hospitals are clean. Far from it. Just think of all the microbes from all the sick people. Clostridium Difficule (C diff) is a bacteria the effects people with weakened immune systems, post-op patients, cancer patients, older folks and people who don't have normal flora in their bowels because of antibiotics. it is difficult to get rid of and very opportunistic.

Hospitals are dirty, the sickest of the sick go there to get better! Unfortunately for postoperative patients with compromised immunity this usually spells trouble. Cdiff is very commonly associated with overuse of antibiotics because when it kills off the bacteria that is making you sick it also kills off the natural flora in your body that maintains a healthy balance. I also have experienced several complications postop. I had internal bleeding in the hospital and lost half of my blood. Transfusion helped and I thought I was making headway, but then I developed a stricture at my anastamosis between my esophagus and stomach. They tried to put me back in the hospital but I refused saying I would do whatever I needed to from home or with home health. I battled dehydration and malnutrition for 5 weeks until I could safely have an esophageal dilation. That has helped a lot but I still need 1-2 more dilations. I often battle nausea and weakness because I have a lot of trouble getting ample nutrition and hydration. It is very frustrating, but I also know I was in trouble before doing this. I had a conversion of a sleeve to bypass with major hernia repair. I had so many problems before this repair and conversion that I believe eventually I will be very glad I did this, it just seems to take forever to get to that point!

C-diff can be a tough one. My healthy 20 year old college football playing son fought with it off and on for over 6 months. No idea how or why he got it. Nobody else on the team did. He was miserable and depressed because he was banned from the team facilities so nobody else ended up with it. He wasn't in the hospital or any kind of medical facility, isn't old, wasn't compromised. So don't look at your surgery as a negative. Maybe you would have gotten the c-diff anyway. You will eventually feel better. You will eventually be so thrilled with your weight loss and your surgery choice. You will look back on this time and say "DAMN THAT SUCKED" but it will just be a bad memory.

@@mrs.papa923 how are you doing? I had surgery 12/23/14 only spent a night in the hospital, but was back in 2 days later with severe c-diff. I am now on my 2nd round of antibiotics as well. I take Flagyl and Vancomycin which still have not rid me of symptoms. I was back in the hospital a few days ago due to dehydration because the Flagyl makes me so sick. I'm now also taking zofran. While I feel slightly better I'm still dealing with abdominal pain and diarrhea. I have follow up appts this week with specialist.

Hoping that you came out of it alright...I need see some hope to look towards.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
