achy bones the more weight you lose?

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's because you're moving around a lot more now?

thats the thing, i was active before. i had awful back pain before, because my stomach was too big, but now its my collarbones that ache. the more i lose the more it hurts! and i actually cut back the last two weeks on the gym because life has gotten in the way..

i had a Vitamin D prescription, so my D levels should be pretty good right now.. maybe i need to get it rechecked!

Check your Vitamin D and Calcium levels witha blood test. Your doctor should be monitoring your blood. I do take Potassium for leg cramps and it seems to work for me. Bananas, cantaloupes all good potassium sources.

In spite of my damaged disc issue, I am standing and walking straighter because that ol' 53" belly isn't pulling me forward and down.

yeah! my back pain is completely gone! but the more i lose, the more my collarbones hurt! its so weird!

The seatbones thing...ouch. It is funny because i still had extra fat when it first showed up. When I lost the last 10# this spring, I could barely tolerate sitting in a saddle and had to buy this fancy cushion thing. Even my office chair, I sometimes use a pillow!

It is getting better, i think it takes time. It is a nice problem to have though!

I just commented to my husband the other day that it was weird that I have more aches and pains at 132 lbs than I did at 269 lbs. It's strange!

Definitely more aches and pains now. Probably because I'm more active. My hips mainly, so much so that I'm in physical therapy. I'm told I strained my left hip because my glutes don't fire properly due to years of inactivity and working a desk job. I've had to cut back on Zumba until it gets better. My ribs used to hurt laying on them at night but this has gone away. Sometimes if my knees rest against each other when I sleep its a bit tender and it wakes me up. Also - sitting on hard surfaces is nearly impossible. Even soft surfaces for more than an hour is a challenge.

My PT explained to me that my bones, muscles, tendons, etc. are hauling a different body around than it was a year ago and it might take a while for everything to adjust to less weight, even though its a good thing.

I have lost my whole butt. All I have left is bones. When I go on the back of hubbys dirt bike, I can't walk for a few days. Wish I could take some fat from my middle and apply it to my butt.

And yes, my bones ache. Specially when I don't turn over every hour or so when sleeping. Hurts my hips/legs to stay in 1 position too long. Didn't have to worry about that when I was covered in fat

I've noticed the same thing about my knees when I sleep on my side. :-)

Mine isn't so much achey as they are sensitive to the touch. I can't sleep on my sides now because my knees poke together and my collar bones are so sore if I push on them. Puts a slight damper on the "ride a roller coaster" nsv.

I've been sick the last few days and everything was achey. Way more than it's ever been in my entire life. I would rather of had surgery again than go through what I went through Wednesday night. My entire body hurt from my head to my knees. I thought I had the flu for sure, but it's just a sinus infection. I broke out in a rash after I started antibiotics and my heart has been doing weird things. I get sinus infections 3-4 times a year and usually get through it without a doctors visit. At the least I'll get a few days into it before I go, but I had to go immediately this time. I don't know if my immune system is still compromised or what but it's been a rough few days. My heart was fine btw and they have no idea what the rash is from.

This is driving me crazy lately! There are three chairs that I suddenly cannot tolerate. Two at home and one at my office desk. It's because my booty has less cushioning! I have to get up and move because it's so uncomfortable. #skinny@$$b1tc#problems

A lot of friends who had surgery have told me they have the same issue. I had a lot of junk in the truck so it hasn't been as much of an issue for me, but I still happens sometimes.

Your body has been so used to carrying a lot of weight it has to go through an adjustment period. I had no feeling between my shoulder blades or my left leg for a long time.

Oh I'm having this issue with my shoulders. They are numb and I pins and needles. Glad to know I'm not alone. I've been going to the chiropractor and getting some physical therapy which has helped some.

when I get achy I go buy new athletic shoes and I get more bounce. I walk funny and wear down the outside of the soles quickly. look at your favorite shoes from the bottom and if they are worn, go shopping. good luck. love sara

Terry1118 that is interesting because no one (Doctor) told me or mentioned that to me either & I also take my synthroid & Vitamins at the same time, I will have to ask also.

I am so glad to know that I am not the only one with aches and pains - especially my collarbone!!! It has really bothering me. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but now I know it's a side effect of losing so much weight. I will take the aches and pains though rather than be what I was - but ouch it's uncomfortable!!

Definitely talk to your endocrinologist. My pharmacist knew about it too (I talked to her about it while I was waiting for the new script to be filled). Maybe this is something not known to the surgical staff? They did ask me for a list of medications I was taking. My team is awesome about everything else.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
