Just found this thread & yay for the 50s! I'm 6 weeks out & thought I was getting my energy back, but the past week at work did me in. Glad for the weekend to recover.

@@beachgal2935 -what an awesome feat with your hemoglobin A1c & @@LainieG -you are truly inspirational to have gone through all you have to persevere to surgery, I'm certain you will be a success.

@@SimplySue Welcome to a fellow Western New Yorker! I postponed my surgery at Highland for work issues. It was supposed to be today (yikes!) and is now Monday December 15th.....3 weeks seems like forever!

Question ladies ... Why did you choose to be sleeved over having the bypass??? I need to know because I'm still struggling with this decision. Thank you :)

HI beachgal.....for me, I was looking into the lap band and after a bit of research found that it was not that effective; and my surgeon said at my age it wasn't a good choice to have something forgien in your body. But the gastric bypass seemed way too invasive for me. I could get my head around having part of my stomach removed; that made complete sense to me and was a much easier surgery to have and to recover from. I think that the bypass is most effectiv for peoplw who are much heavier and have a lot more weight to lose; and they lose faster. But there are side effects and I think medications that you must take forever. Your stats are very similar to mine and personally (I'm no doctor obviously) I think the sleeve would work just fine for you. Good luck!

I absolutely agree with Queen of the crop. My decision was easy. I knew I didn't the lap band. Didn't like the idea of fills and possible problems with foreign object. I also thought removing part of my stomach seemed less scary for me then re routing my intestines. Some may not understand that but it's just how I felt. Also more freedom of food choices for the future me. Good luck I'm sure you'll decide with your dr what's best for you!

I had surgery 10/9/14 @ highland hospital in Rochester, almost 7 weeks post op already!! Preop diet was 24 hours, down 40 lbs total so far. Choose the sleeve over bypass, because I didn't want to worry about malabsorption & no Diabetes or other co-morbidities.

@@beachgal I saw the surgeon last week and discussed that the sleeve would be the best option for me cause I take a strong pain reliever and I need that to be absorbed.Ineed it for my severe osteoarthritis in my knees. I am happy with decision :). My date should be soon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
