Going from Band to Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I will have my surgery in about 24 days. I have mixed feelings. I'm excited and very nervous. I have been hungry for no reason. I think it's because I'm nervous (and I'm extra emotional because this is my time of the month. Not a real excuse I know, but it's all I got). I feel like God is giving me a do over, and I need to do well. I just need a lot of support and encouragement. I would also love to communicate with old banders/new sleevers out there.

I need some encouragement. I can't get it together with this preop diet. I want this process, but I think the stress of it all is making me what to eat. I'm nauseous all the time. Today is a better day, cause I had a salad. I have had low car high Protein diets before, but I am struggling this time.

Just had my band revised to a sleeve on the Nov. 4th. It went fairly smooth with only a few issues. My recovery is going well and my pain and swelling is almost gone. so far, sfter surgery, I only have had Protein shakes with no desire to eat anything else.

Your going to be just fine. Pre-op is always a tough time. It's the time you have the biggest doubts and start to rthink. Power through it, its going to be fine. Only you can succeed at the pre-op diet. The only advice I can say is that it's worth the effort and you will be glad you had the revision.

Good Luck!

I have a question I have seen similar post to this about band to sleeve, how come you have to get a revision did the band not work? if not why? I was originally going for the band but my dr said no to do the sleeve so I just agreed with him. Should I be happy I did not get the band?

My band never really worked for me. I got mine in 2006. I felt that I needed to get it revised because I started having issues with it. Pain, vomiting, slime and nausea were always there. My band surgeon told me nothing was wrong.

In hindsight, I should have never had it .I had to many problems with it and not enough weight loss.

No regrets on the revision so far. It's good to have the band gone. I'm seeing results and feeling much better now.

I had many of the same issues. No matter what wls you decide, you will still have a lot of work to do. You need to be mindful of your food choices and exercise is also important. I have had a lot going on in this month and a half. It's been a struggle, but I'm doing my best.

My band slipped and it was removed in late June. Then sat for approval for the sleeve for 4 months. OCT 20 I was sleeved. 3 weeks out and I'm doing great and don't regret a thing. The band gave me lots of complication. Constantly throwing up and frothing and after 5 years of complications the band slipped. I'm not hungry now, eating or trying to eat 80g of Protein daily and drink 64oz of Water plus. It's hard to do when eating is so small but I have lost 35lbs in three weeks and see noticeable differences between the two and the way I look. Don't worry. It will go fine.

Hi, just had my band out last year and got my sleeve done on Monday in perth Australia.

I'm actually feeling fantastic and I am shocked at how little gas shoulder tip pain I've had and minimal pain!

Any questions you have hit me up :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
