lab band support meeting

Recommended Posts

:clap2: I just got back from labband support group meeting. It was my first . I was surprise of the different faces and sizes of the people there. About 40 people there. I was woundering how many of you out there have a group support meeting. We have 1 meeting a month. We talk about portion controll, fills how often, how many to hit your sweet spot. 4 people there hit there 100lbs weight loss. which was wounderful to see how proud they were of them selfs and how hard they work for it. It was my first but not my last.

My support group meets once a week. I'm very lucky, most groups meet only once a month. In my opinion, going to a support group is so important, you learn so much. Our "Leader" had gastric bypass surgery herself, so she really knows what she's talking about, having gone through it herself. Our support group is with our surgeon and it includes patients that have had lapband as well as gastric bypass. We learn so much from each other and it gives me something to look forward to each week.

I have not been attending any support meetings since getting banded on 1/19 but I plan to start this month. The meetings are held once per month. I decided to start going after I had my first fill on 4/11. There were five other ladies also waiting for fills and while we were waiting, we started talking and sharing our experiences. I found even that beneficial and fun. So I made up my mind at that point to check out some of the support meetings. Especially now since I seem to be in a slump and stressed out about it.

This seems beneficial to bypass patients, but hwo does it help the lap-band folks? Some things are similar, but there aren't a whole lot of consistencies in the day-to-day (which is what most people seem to struggle with). Do you find it helpful? (Truly wondering, not doubting - I've considered going to a group that's mainly RNY, but haven't because I don't see the value).

My surgeon has a group that meets once a month. I don't mean this like it sounds, but I'm not much of a support group person. I don't get a lot out of it. Mainly when I go it's to help others. (I lied, mainly it's an opportunity to meet up with a few ladies I've befriended). I should add that the one I went to saw a few regulars, but was mostly new/upcoming patients asking the same exact questions over and over, and then never implementing the advice you give them. *sigh*

Maybe I'm just a bit disillusioned.

My surgeon's support group is an hour away, and I just don't want to drive to Jacksonville at night if I don't have to. I'm so busy with my kids in the evenings that I choose not to spend another night away from the family. The local group is for a different group of surgeons.

Funny, I just posted about this on another thread!:)

I was banded in Mexico, so alas, no support meetings locally for me.

I use this BB for support. My Doc in Mexico just began a BB on his website though.

One of my friends does go to a local group for lapbanders. He is the only male & feels a little uncomfortable. If you have a good group that discusses relevant issues, I think its great!!

What I love about the BB is I can read past posts of people hthat have experienced what I am going through, & the support is wonderful! The added bonus is with my scedule, I can "attend" anytime.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
