Is sleeve good for SERIOUS sugar addicts?

Recommended Posts

I am a sleever who will dump if I eat too much sugary food. It is a great deterrent and stops me from binging on sugar. Pre sleeve I could eat a whole box of Girl Scout Cookies. Now more than 2 Cookies makes me feel ill. Also can't have ice cream. It makes me really ill. 1-2 bites maybe is all I can handle. So definitely helps me make better choices. Even too much fruit gets me sick to my stomach but I can have berries. No smoothies for me either if they are too sweet.

Not even all RNY get dumping though it is more common. In any case you will have restriction to stop binging but there is not automatic stop to cravings. Best thing is to stay off the sugar in e first place and then you won't crave as much. I never start the day with carbs cause then I'll crave all day. If I want sugary carbs I do at night so as not to wake the sugar monster during the day.

thats why you have to get to the bottom of your food/carb/sugar addiction ahead of the surgery (or at least try)!

if you have zero insight, and you have no plan for soothing yourself without food, you will figure out how to eat around your surgery.

too many people seem to say "i wont eat that after surgery." and that is their sole plan for coping without food afterwards.

there are many ways to fill your needs after surgery... but no plan usually means nothing happens. you fall back on your old coping mechanisms, which means food.

Good posts on this thread. But @@Kindle, your stories about friends who are eating themselves into regain and their graves from horrific food choices makes me nauseated and sad. What a waste of life and opportunity.

Follow the eating rules and in a couple of months you will awaken to feel life super man. Dumping the numbing effects of food and alcohol is fricking amazing. You will want to live life to the fullest. That is what is happening to me.

Thank you so much everyone!! I am really excited to start this journey. I have an amazing support group of friends and family that have blazed this trail before me. Decided on RNY. Looking forward to a great future.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
