You all ever get intense hiccups in the middle of eating? It always varies when it happens to me. It can happen on the first bite, or later. I notice cold things like Jello really get it going sometimes. But, there has been no rhyme or reason to it other than it will happen when I eat or sometimes drink cold Water..and especially in the mornings when I'm tightest. It is not painful...just weird...and kinda comical for my family.

My hiccups only occur near the end of my meal and it's usually only one or two times and it's over. Sounds like you have a very sensitive valgus nerve?

I was wondering about that nerve. I was reading somewhere that they have found stimulating that nerve causes weight loss. It works by making you not hungry. I definitely think that nerve is being stimulated in my diaphragm area. I always wondered what the point of hiccups were...it now seems to have a point since I've been banded....Its like my diaphragm feels what I eat from outside my stomach and is trying to get rid of anything cold or annoying. It's kinda embarrassing when it happens...the hiccups are loud! I'll ask my surgeon about it next time I see him. I don't think there is any fixing it...it just is what it is.

Funny I stumbled across this. I can't remember if i had ate or drank anything but my boyfriend rushed upstairs earlier because i was hiccupping violently. He was worried!

Happens to me daily. Cold things really get to me. I guess it is common? I dunno. I see the surgeon on the 15th...I'll inquire about it. It scares me a bit when they start.

I usually hiccup at the end of a meal. Same as with 2muchfun.... Only a couple, then it goes away.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
