MaRcHiEs IN MaY

Recommended Posts

Ì was out of town this weekend with family (none of which knew I had the surgery). Cut to Breakfast when my dad made his traditional humongass pancakes. I took one overexuberant bite and within 30 seconds up it came - no drama at all. But I definitely left the rest of my pancake alone!!!

I have my second fill tomorrow at 11:15 - looking forward to it. My first fill was really tiny and if anything I felt more restriction before my fill.

Looks like thickchick and I have restriction!!! WOO-HOO!

I'm drinking my h20 as slowly as possible and can feel it gurgling down, hope i'm not too tight.

I got on the scale at Dr's office at 2pm and I had only lost 1 lb in two weeks. Dr took out my "before" pic from December and complemented my on having lost 20 lbs since surgery...said not to worry, I'm doing fine.

He put another 1cc in my band for a total of 2cc.

Clear Liquids today and tomorrow, full liquids Thurs and mushies on Fri.

Darn it, hope the salmon I have thawing in the fridge doesn't go bad since I can't eat it until Sat.

Hope all is well with everyone.

So here's the scoop. I FINALLY GOT MY FILL. Yay!!!!!! I have a 10cc band and they put in 5cc. I think I need to be tighter. I have trouble getting food down in the morning but can pretty much eat anything after noon. I called the Doctor and he told me that I have to "work" with the band and not expect it to do all the work for me. Working on that as I write.

All the drama about waiting so long to get filled was just me in panic mode. It turns out my scale at home is wrong. On the doctor's scale I only gained 5 pounds. What a relief that was?

My question to the Marchies is this: Should I tighten the band more?

Got my fill today. First I have a 10cm band and got 1.3cc in. They used floro and I had to do a swallow first just to make sure everything was working. Now the drama. MY BAND HAS FILPPED!!!!!!! Well, tilted up. Instead of facing out, it is looking up at me. It took the PA forever to get it to tilt so she could get it (pushing on my stomach and using the needle), but it wasn't bad at all. There was an ouch moment or two but it wasn't bad. They also don't do the numming shot. Emily, the PA, said I would need to have another surgery to have my port put to right. I told her lets wait and see.

Hey Everyone,

I had my 3rd fill today....up to 2.2 in a 4 ml band. Everything went okay in the drs. office---drank my Water...and then went to my car to drive home...started to hiccup...and then...wait for it...started foaming at the mouth. Thought I was Old Yeller!

Denise

Do you think I am too tight?

Congrats on getting the good fills guys! I have 1cc and can't get another fill until the end of May. I was planning to wait as long as possible, but I bet even just .5 cc would help a lot. I will definately go in when the 6 weeks are up.

-Bandstar, I'd wait a couple of weeks and see how it goes....

-Hazelbunny & Denise, Are you guys too filled to full?

-Thanks for the encouragement, Momlambert. How are you doing?

-Ms Husker, That sucks re: the flipped port. Do you have to have it fixed?

-Welcome home Josebies!

demsvmejm--I had the exact same thing happen to me, only lost 1 lb in two weeks, the doctor filled me up to 2.4cc's and now I'm super tight. I have a hard time keeping stuff down before noon time, unless it's coffee or tea--super hot. I also had to stay on liquids and mushies a lot longer than the first time, don't know why...

I do have a question for all you bandsters...ever since my first fill, after I eat dinner, which is usually the larger meal of the day for me (300-400 calories), i get a pain in my port area. I was wondering if it could be because the fill liquid in the band is being pushed away from the stomach area because of the food to the port area? If that makes any sense. Has anyone had this happen to them?

The same thing happened to me and I was going to call my doc today for a slight unfill but I was able to eat all my Soup at lunch and some chili for dinner, haven't been able to do that since last thursday! I'd say give it a few days and if you still feel the same, then give the doc a call!:)

How have you been doing Karen? We've missed you around here. We need an update please!!! :)

Thanks for asking! I'm doing well but just extremely busy. As I mentioned before, my father is dying of colon cancer so my kids are coming to town to see him (as their work and school schedules permit). One came two weeks ago, one last week, and three come tomorrow (all with spouses, significant others, and our two adorable grandsons). Plus everything involved with all of that, we just bought a new house and have had to get ours ready and on the market--which it now is. Which means, of course, that it has to be ready for inspection by potential buyers at any moment. Now how is that going to work with nine house guests? May the force be with us!

I'm having fun (but feeling lots of pressure) choosing cabinets, hardwood, carpet, appliances, tile, granite, etc., etc. for the new house--selections were supposed to be done yesterday. I spent today (my day off work) SURE that I could finish everything but came home at 8 p.m. even more discouraged--one choice changes all the others. I so needed to have all this done before the kids come but it just didn't happen. Hope they like lugging samples and going in stores with me on Thursday! Guess I'll take them all to lunch...

So life is good but busy. Dad is doing very well right now and that is a huge blessing. We are so grateful that he isn't suffering.

As far as band life goes...I went for my first fill two weeks ago and didn't get one. I have another appt. on Monday to see if I need one yet. I'm not really discouraged--probably because I've been too busy to think about it. My weight loss is really slow but I have lost 16 lbs. in the 7 weeks since surgery so it isn't terrible. I'm envious of some of your guys and your fantastic losses but a loss is a loss and I'll claim whatever I get. I've always been a really slow loser.

I've done better with my exercising the past week. Thanks for the challenge, Tammy. I need to change my ticker to 5 of 20 completed. I stay between 1,000 and 1,200 calories every day and am faithful tracking everything on Sparkpeople.com. So I'm doing what I can. I'm trying to make good food choices but I do eat too much quantity. I can eat 1 1/2-2 c. without any problem. Thankfully, I've never PB'd or slimed. So life is good.

I do read the posts every day but just haven't had much to contribute or the time to really check in. I appreciate you thinking of me. You guys are doing AWESOME! Hopefully in the next week or three I'll be able to tell you about my first fill. Hang in there everyone. We CAN DO THIS! Karen

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
