Is there anyone out there who regrets getting the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I am sorry for the miscommunication. I will have the surgery in 3 months and I am worried about one gaining wait during that time and two not being able to lose 25 pounds for my surgery. I was thinking of using the phentermine pills during the 3 month will I wait for the sleeve surgery. http://www.phentermine.com I think it is the best way to go. I would stop using them once I start my pro-liquid diet... As someone stated before, I am not looking forward to a third surgery with all the scares. I guess I can look into something to put on them?

My surgeon did the exact same for me, and I'm also able to eat anything now. White meat chicken, broccoli, all kinds of stuff I couldn't eat with the band. I also can eat more than the 1 cup the nutritionists promised. Mentally l have feared a bigger bougie will hurt my weight loss. It is slow, but I've always been a slow weight loser. It's all about the choices anyway. And I sure do get full a lot faster than when my band was unfilled. Thanks for posting -- made me feel much better!

My surgeon told me that she used a larger bougie to make my sleeve - so it's slightly larger than a virgin sleeve, so that may be part of the reason why I haven't had any issues with any foods and can eat anything, and have never thrown up since being sleeved or felt a painful fullness or anything. I sometimes worry that in a year I'll be able to eat too much, but I will just focus on eating the right foods - including veggies - and that should allow me to have continued success.

I had my band out and a revision to sleeve. I have only lost 8 pounds in 6 months. NOW the doctor is telling me because I had the band previously that I wouldn't lose much weight . It has been very discouraging. I wish the doctor had told me this 6 months ago and $12,200 later.

I was banded in April of 2013 and had it removed and was sleeved on aug 11 I feel like I made the best decision I could have made I wish I would have done the sleeve first but now that I've done it I feel so much better and feel like this will work I was working out and eating "what I could" with the band (which wasn't bad foods just things like chicken wouldn't go down so it wasn't the best of foods) I am curious how it will be now that I have been sleeved I am only 4 days out of surgery and doing great with the liquids and so far post surgery have lost 5 pounds I am sure that's from being on ONLY liquids but will continue to try to succeed! But I do believe it was the best decision I could have made as of right now! Will keep everyone posted on my journey! ❤️❤️

What are you doing to lose weight and how much do you have to loss. This is my worst fear but I do workout on a regular bases an I eat a lot of things that are good for me. I had my band out two weeks ago and I have lost 2lbs. If I can lose a pound a week before surgery for the sleeve, I will be good.

Had my band put in September 2008. I Lost some weight like 35 pounds, but I gained it all back. The band slipped and I had it removed Aug. 31, 2014. I am told I have to wait 3 months and loss 25 pounds before the next surgery. I hear so much good things about the sleeve that it kinda sound to good to be true. What are your regrets of the band.

Now that I have the Lap band off my apatite has returned full force. I don't want to gain additional before I get the sleeve. I was watching Dr. Phil and there was a young lady who had taken Phentermine pills and lost 80 pounds. She started to gain due to not taking the pills. The Doctors stated she was using the the pills recklessly due to she was using them for more than 9 months where it is recommended to be used for only 3 months. http://www.phentermine.com/phentermine-user-pictures/user/52223/album/345/picture/6101 What do you guys think. I have three weeks before my sleeve surgery and I need to loss 25 pounds. I kind of have my mind made up but I want some feedback.

Looking good

I am one year out from band to sleeve. I am happy the band is out. It was embedded in my stomach, the had to dig it out. That was after 5 years banded with good restriction. Imaging another 5 years?

The sleeve is a mixed blessing. The first 6 months I lost about 20 lbs. the last 6 months I am just yo-yoing up and down and all around. My surgeon is disappointed. I'm relearning from 5 years of bad habits. Band surgery 255, revision surgery (band to sleeve, one surgery) 203 on surgery day (if I remember right) today 195.

With the band I couldn't eat. I got stuck and vomited. I hated it. With the sleeve I can eat anything and never vomit. And to be honest, there have been many times I wish I could have thrown it up. To get rid of calories, not because of pain.

When I went in for revision I said I want to stop puking and I want to not gain any weight. So really I got what I want. But several month at 183 were awesome. So now I want that too. It's so hard! The band physically stopped me from eating. The sleeve does not.

Do you work out? Do it hurt when you over eat??

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
