I had my surgery in Mexico last Tuesday, and I went back to work today (Monday) with no problems. I have a desk job, too.

I had my surgery on a Fri. I went back to work the following Wed. My work is not strenuous but requires a lot of walking sometimes. I bought a back brace to support my stomach. I only used it for the first few days back at work.

I had the same surgeon as sndgord53....had surgery in TJ on a Friday. Was back to work (active job, on my feet, lifting, bending, squatting, walking) by the next Friday. I had a 25 pound lifting restriction for three weeks, but was able to take care of all my other duties.

So good to know! Would love to schedule surgery in October, but can take only 1 week off from work (office job, no lifting), but was going to wait until December so I could have surgery around the 13th, and then have the 2 weeks off at Christmas. But Christmas isn't the ideal time to be recovering from surgery...

I planned my surgery at Christmas time because it was the easiest to get off work for me. With travel I was gone a total of 8 days but only missed 4 days of work. Then when I did go back, I had the weekend and New Years to break it up so I I didn't have to jump straight into a full 6 day week.

I originally planned on taking a week and a half, my surgeon really wanted me to take two weeks so I took his advise and I am glad that I did, mostly because I was surely enjoying my time off. I didn't take it easy so to speak, I walked and walked etc.,

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
