Why not call your on call nurse and ask? Or til tomorrow when you get there? Try not to go without the green light from your doctor.

Good luck!

I am not understanding. I was told from my dictor to start the puree(as i can tolerate) when i went home. They even gave me scrambled egg in the hostipal. I feel like i am doing something wrong??? I have had chicken puree, and a scrambled egg and some hummus. All within size portions.

Is this wrong, i hear everyone being told to wait a week to 2??

Every surgeon has a different food progression plan. I could have a scrambled egg at day 7, but I've seen people on liquids for weeks post-op. Not sure why there is no industry standard...?

My suggestion is "always follow your doctor's orders"

You have a lot invested in this process - it doesn't matter what anyone else's doctor's told them. Your doctor is your doctor and you should follow their rules.

I am nine days postop and I was told by my doctor not to start.Puréed until two weeks postop I thought that that was the industry-standard? I must admit these past eight days have been torture I haven't been able to even polywater without feeling sharp pains in my stomach. But today I feel like a brand-new person I'm telling you my stomach is growling too! (I am desperate for food).

According to my paperwork it takes 4-6 weeks before I can even start soft real food. So I'm thinking purée is going to be atleast a 2 week process. I just want different flavones of things. Protein drinks are getting old fast. Lol

It's crazy how different they all are! I had a day of nothing (the day of my surgery, which was in the morning), then a day of ice chips but nothing else, then the day I was released I was allowed to start Clear Liquids. I'm on day 4 of 7 of those. Then I have a week of full liquids (anything I can drink through a straw), then a week of purée, then a week of soft foods.

I swear, by next week I'm going to be trying to fit steak through a straw, just to taste something more interesting! ;)

Everyone is different. Some have hernia repair, some have pre-surgery gastric reflux, some are more susceptible to nausea. Your doctor must have his reasons, could just be from his experience with his patients. Go with what he says and you will know that you have done everything in your power to be successful.

I'm learning quickly from this app that many doctors all over the world have different eating rules. I'm reading about people having surgery the same day(July 24) as me eating bacon crackers. I couldn't imagine what my stomach would do with that. For me it's baby steps. Fear a perforated stomach. Don't want that. They say it's painful and dangerous.

Hi everyone! I'm almost a month out and had a different experience also. The day after my surgery I wasn't allowed to have anything but those Water sponges and a couple ice chips, apparently he had a hard time stretching my duodenum (sp) to fit so they were concerned a stitch would slip. I was on liquid about a week then did one day of puréed and had my doctor's appointment and he said nope, move right to soft, he really threw me for a loop! I've been fine and adding things here and there to see how I do and haven't had any major issues. It really is interesting how every doctor is different. Good luck!

Some of you are so lucky!

Week 1 - Clear liquids

Weeks 2 and 3 - full liquids

Week 4 - purée

Week 5 - transitioning to regular food

Just finished day 5 of week 2. Still have 10 more days until purée!!!

Me too, maebugg! I am hoping it's just a combination of head hunger and stomach acid. My mouth wants food, but my stomach is like "Yeah, I'll take Gatorade and maybe a Popsicle, but don't even TALK to me about anything else, or I'll growl. A lot." ;)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
