HELP!!! 6 month supervised diet

Recommended Posts

Ok...so I am starting on this wagon AGAIN!! I have done 2 supervised diets in the past with my doc but they were over 2 years ago so the surgeons office suggested restarting one with my doc. They told me that insurances usually make us do this to 'prove' that we are capable and commited to change. I understand all of that....I really do....my problem is...I just can not get motivated. I feel like I have been down this road so many times in my past and even if I loss the weight I have regained it and then some. There is a reason I am where I am now and asking them to cover surgery. I done my first visit last week and honestly I have been trying but then I think this one won't hurt me....YEAH RIGHT!!!! I need LOTS of words of encouragment and someone please give me a great diet plan that maybe they followed. Any suggestions? I HAVE to do this. I have to prove to myself I can. It is sooooo hard!!!!!!:angry

I follow "Eating for Life" by Bill Phillips. The concept is similar to what WasabubbleButt said...your body needs some carbs...but it needs COMPLEX carbs...not refined carbs such as white bread. Plus he teaches us how to mix good foods properly and at the right times. I have lost 180 lbs using this book and I am not starving myself!

You CAN do this...the band will always require motivation since it's not like RNY. There is no malabsorption so everything you eat "counts" so to be successful you'll have to adobt a healthy, sensible diet. That takes a lot of committment. I was scared I couldn't do it too, but the "Eating for Life" method was required from my doctor and it is just so stinking easy! It's like DUH...why didn't I just do this my whole life? If that book had been around when I was younger I am positive I wouldn't have ever gotten so big to need surgery!

YOU CAN DO THIS AND YOU'LL BE SUCCESSFUL!

Great, I hope you find the book as helpful as I have. He talks a lot about how you actually have to feed your body to lose weight and that was hard for me to trust because all the media talks about is diet, diet, diet but if you follow the book then apply the "bandster" rules I think you'll do great!

Hey LapBandit,

Great stats first of all, you have lost a lot of weight in a year. I was just reading the post regarding "Eating for Life", I went to the Website and read the questions and answers and the testimonials and ordered the book. My question is that in the book, it talks about nutritious shakes and bars, what are those? Do you use them? I have boxes of LA Lites from LA weightloss centers, do you think I could use them for the bars?

Thanks

Karen

LapBandit...first and foremost...WOW!!! Congrats on your success so far!!! Your work is paying you dividends that will last a lifetime...and an extended lifetime at that!

I am having my surgery a week from today...and am inspired by your success. I will be swinging by the pick up a copy of Eating for Life...but I have a question for you. On the EFL website...it seemed to indicate eating several small meals throughout the day...rather than just three...but in my nutrition class..they said three meals per day should be it to avoid over-eating. How do you plan your meals?

After I ger the book...I will likely have more questions about adapting the concepts to a "bandster lifestyle". May I pick your brain at a later date?

Thanks for the time and insights. Take care and have a great day.

Bud

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
