I am worried I am losing too fast

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done on 7/15 and I am already down 20 lbs. I am not trying to complain but it has only been 9 days. I am getting 80 grams of Protein and about 60 oz of Water. I am just kind of freaked out that I am losing too fast and something is wrong.

I think it's normal at first. The first 2 or 3 weeks, I was losing 1 pound a day. Then it slowed down. I lost about 25 lbs the first month, 15 the second and 10 the third. Now I'm all over the place. I lost 6 lbs in one week, then nothing for the next 2 weeks. I guess what I'm trying to say is don't worry. You'll lose fast, you'll stall and you'll lose again. As long as you're getting in all your Protein and your liquids, I don't think there's anything to worry about. Call your doctor if you're worried and see what he or she says. That's always the best thing to do.

Did you have a pre-op diet? If so, how much did you lose before the surgery? I ask because those without pre-op diets seem to drop a lot immediately after surgery.

I was really bad about pre op diet. I didn't do it. I was sleeved on a tuesday. I had Protein Shakes all day sunday and clear liquid only on monday before. I didn't lose any pre surgery weight. Maybe that is why it is going so fast now because by body isn't used to it. Now I have been eating a lot of greek yogurt, sugar free Jello and the premier brand Protein shakes from costco.< /p>

you will stall out in a weeks time and then you'll complain that you're sleeve isn't working enjoy those big losses.

Right after my surgery, those first two weeks, it was like I had stepped off a cliff like Wyle E Coyote in a loonie toons cartoon and just lost weight freakishly fast. I went to bed, and woke up one day, and was seven lbs lighter. SEVEN LBS!! So of course I figured something was wrong, but nothing was. After the first two weeks I hit a stall for 12 days before my weight loss started again and regulated itself to something more gradual.

Per my surgeon, the more you have to lose and then if you're a man, the quicker you'll lose.

My BMI was not extremely high and they expressed concern that I was losing too fast and ordered tests to check on Vitamin levels etc. So, if it ever becomes a concern, they'll let you know.

Makes sense now. You had practically no preopp period. The first 20-40 pounds come off fast. It will slow down. Many people hit a stall at week 3, maybe later for you. Don't worry about it. You are doing fine.

I think it's normal for a man who is heavier to lose faster. Go you!!

I wouldn't worry. 1. Guys lose faster 2. If you didn't really do a pre op diet you will lose faster 3. The first week is often a big loss and it will slow down. I lost 17lbs my first week (my dr only does a 48hr pre op clear liquids) and then it slowed down to 5 second week and then I hit the three week stall. If you're losing at that rate after a few weeks, then you can be concerned!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
