Please do not compare yourself with others in the weight loss department. Each person is different and has a different body chemistry so therefore no one loses at the same speed. what this does is make people feel like their surgery is not as successful as another's.

This is not a race this is a journey so please when you are replying to this thread. Don't look at others weight loss as a I failed because I only lost 35 lbs in 3 months. :)

Ditto. This is not a race and trying to compare yourself to others is never a good idea (with WLS or anything else in life). We are all individuals and we will all experience things differently. This thread will only lead to someone feeling bad about themselves because they couldn't "keep up".

Starting BMI, body type, gender, muscle mass pre op, all are factors in the results. I expected to lose 20 pounds my first month. I'm a male 6' 6" that lifted weights regularly and weighed 444lbs. Needless to say, I lost 41lbs my first month. And on pace to lose another 30 my second. It would be crazy for a 5'6" female weighing 280lbs at start to expect that kind of loss. It's a life change, you have your lifetime to get and stay healthy and fit. Focus on the behaviors(diet, exercise) and the rest will fall in place inevitably in its proper time.

I had lost 68 lbs at 3 months. I agree though, that everyone loses differently, and losing too fast doesn't give your body time to adjust.

What I can tell you is there is no norm on what people lose in a certain amount of time. The factors already stated above influence - age, starting weight, etc. My signature below shows my weight loss the past 13 weeks. I have lost almost 50 pounds since surgery (5'7" 236 starting weight and today I weighed 187.5). I have never hit a stall, but I've consistently lost at a snail's pace. Please note it took me 7 weeks to get through the 190's!!! I started walking on the treadmill for 1-1.5 hours daily the past few weeks. While the scale isn't reporting much, my body composition is changing. Exercise makes a HUGE difference! I found that I was becoming skinny-fat. Don't just base success on what you weigh. I found I was losing a lot of muscle weight and everything was just sagging. Not anymore. Exercise plus my slow weight loss has meant I have very little sagging skin! I have learned to accept my slow weight loss. Comparing myself to others loosing 3-7 pounds per week just leaves me feeling discouraged.

I've lost 58lbs since surgery. Lost 76lbs since starting the pre-op diet. It's been rather frustrating because I've had multiple stalls and even some occasions where I GAINED weight. One week I'd gain 5lbs, the next I'd lose 10lbs. It's crazy. Even if eating things that are bad for me, I still don't see how I gained weight when I'm eating a small fraction of what I did before surgery.

Also, this weight loss has come with almost NO exercise. I'm still incredibly tired, so I've been really bad and haven't been exercising. I'm guessing if I had, I probably would have lost at least 20-30 more pounds.

This is so VERY true. If I constantly compared myself to others I would go bananas. Your body is going to do what it wants, when it wants. Like someone said on another post, check yourself a year from your surgery date....that is going to be your greatest milestone.

I swear I've lost and gained the same 5-6 pounds over the last month, but my surgeon says it's normal. I tend to judge my progress by non scale victories. Started out wearing18/20 pre - surgery, now I'm wearing a 12/14.....but the scale isn't moving all that much. I'm still happy with my success and measuring or comparing myself to others would only destroy my happiness. Best wishes to all :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
