Guest USMC23

So I was banded on feb 23th and everything has gone fine with the recovery and eating and drinking. I have done everything they have asked me to do. I work out and eat according to the rules, but after the first 15 lbs lost I just stopped losing. After a while i went to my regular doc and had my thyroid tested and it is low. So now I am on meds for that but I have not noticed any difference. I just don't have any motivation, and it doesn't help everyone knows I had this surgery and I am continuously asked how its going because they can see I have not lost. I also have had my second fill and I have pretty good restriction so I know I am not eating too much or the wrong things. Any suggestions? Or maybe just some motivation for this frustrated bander :phanvan

I also have hypothyroidism....it makes you feel tired, not wanting to move, depressed and it actually slows you metabolism...so give yourself time to get adjusted to the medication and you will start to lose again and feel better....try not to let other people knowing you had the band get you down b/c if they really care about you they will understand its not an instant fix and 100 lbs gone over night. Well I hope you start to feel better soon.

Hello out there. I had my banding on Dec. 29th 2007 Until I got my second fill I didn't feel much restriction. I had the fill on APril 10th. I have really had quite the time with it, But I am doing what they told me too. I was vomiting alot. Called, they told me to try doing just liquids for a few days. to calm the stomach down, that did help . But as I said I am pretty restricted, which is what I wanted but it is very hard to find the things that you can tolerate. I don't think I am geting in quite enough Protein, and calories. And the scales are not going down much. I think that once can actually eat more that the wt. will go down, The body tends to hold onto the fat. the body is a funny thing. But I refuse to have any of the fill taken out, as long as I can get somethings in and can drink Protein Drinks just need more of it. I really could use some support, dont' get alot at home, but my mom helps me alot, she had a gastric bypass yrs ago and she was very sick so she is really my inspiration in this and shoulder to cry on. GOd Bless her..Please feel free to email me , Iwould love the support. Donna my email is Mammysm@aol.com Please write..

Hi there, have your tried to measure your body. A lot of time people don't see it on the scale but can see or feel it in inches around the body. Whether it be by measuring or how your clothes feel... It's not uncommon to have this happen where you do Not see the numbers budge on the scale. Keep up the good work, plently of Water and exercise. Not to mention it can take a while for you and your doc to get your thyroid under control. Stick with it, it's just a speed bump on your way to success!

Hang in there !!! hypothyroidisum is a tricky thing, and it may take your body longer to get adjusted not only to the band but to the medications. How are you doing now? any progress ?

Hang in there it can take several months for your thyroid to get back to normal. Your thyroid not only makes you gain weight but also makes you lose hair and become very grouchy. Or i sure know it did me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
