Good luck Kelly! My surgery is on the 15th. I just had my last class at the center I am going through. A couple things they told us to get is liquid Tylenol and if you can't find an adult dose then get children's Tylenol but ask you pharmacist what dose to take. Also get children's liquid Benadryl, Zyrtec or Claritin. And again check with pharmacist on adult dosage.

A cheap blender. I suggest purchasing food as you need it. I found that during the liquid phase I got tired of the different foods rather quickly. sugar free otter pops and non sugar added Fruit Drinks were helpful , but dont by the costco size box. broth with the lowest amount of sodium is good for a short amount of time. Stay away from salt as best as one can. I turned into a salt lick after a couple of days. Themain thing is to stay hydrated.

One of by best friends after surgery (and I had no idea I would need it) way a stepping stool. It was a tremendous help when getting in and out of bed. My bed is fairly high and it decreased the pain and pressure in my abdomen a great deal.

I agree with the buying as you need it. I got sick of things fast too. I think it is because after a couple days, I wanted something....I didn't know what, but I imagine it was just solid food). I craved a salad so bad that it bordered on obsession! Ha ha!

Good luck to you. Stick to the guidelines and you will do great!

Gas-x, sugar free drink mix made in a large container so you don't have to keep mixing individual bottle, and a great attitude :) good luck and congrats on your decision

one of the very best things somebody on here suggested was a good sports bra! one of my incisions falls VERY high on my belly and my underwire would have rubbed on it.

earlier this year i read a thread where somebody suggested that we use sports bras for the first several days. i took that advice and SO glad i did! i went to Walmart and got a 3-pack of these really nice stretchy ones. they gave good support and were really comfortable for the first week afterwards until i could stretch myself and move around enough to get a regular bra on!

also i would suggest getting some Protein 'shots'. although most shots are callogen based Protein, there are also some whey ones that pack a good amount of protein. i was surprised that from swelling, the first 3 days i had very limited intake. i'm told this is true for almost all sleeve patients, and getting your protein right from the beginning is very important. the 'shots' pack a ton of protein in a very small amount of liquid.

wishing you luck!

Plain Greek yogurt and tons of Protein supplement! I'm in my second week post op and am finding that in the liquid stage, pretty much the only way I get Protein is through supplements. It also takes forever to drink one. I've found that if I blend chocolate, vanilla, or banana with ice and plain greek yogurt, I'm getting tons of protein in one glass so I only have to drink one in the morning and one at night to get my protein in. The rest of the time I'm eating Jello, pudding, popsicles, or broth. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
