Anyone having surgery 7-15?

Recommended Posts

Me! Me! Me! I just joined the group, would love surgery buddies! The preoperative diet has been ok, except for the awful Headaches! Any ideas on this? I get Migraines pretty easily and I am really trying to hold these at bay so I don't end up with one. I cut my caffeine back to 1 cup of coffee per day (from about 4); and of course the Bariatric Advantage shakes. What else causes the headaches? I would have thought the caffeine would have passed by now.

Good luck everyone!

I only had the headaches the first few days, they should pass.

Hi Misty,

My surgery is 7/14. We can be buddies too. I was originally supposed to have the gastric sleeve but because of an acid reflux problem my doctor changed the surgery to gastric bypass. Let me know how your's goes. I'm super excited. My 3rd day on the liquid diet.

Same here...did you have Barretts?

Hi Misty and Pik,

I had my gastric bypass yesterday and it went great. I have none of the nausea, cramps, or excess gas that was expected. I took GasX thin strips and I believe that helped a lot.

I got up today and made 10 laps around the surgery corridor and didn't feel much pain at all. My stomach is sore now but just feels like I have done a lot of sit ups. I'm so glad it's over and I'm on my way. I lost almost 10 lbs on my pre-surgery diet. So I will be counting down from 221. My beginning weight was 247.

Good luck to you and hope your surgery goes as easily as mine. Once I got to the hospital I was completely calm. My hubby was a nervous wreck though until it was over.

Fran

Glad everything went so well for you! I am getting all of my stuff together for surgery later on today. I will be visiting a different hospital this morning to see my friend who is having her baby today!!!

Ok buddies revision surgery went well. Minor to no pain but a lot of soreness on left side. Have been walking a lot but can't manage that breathing tube. I'm so ready to go home.

My incision pain is kicking my butt and takes my breath away. Today is the fourth day post op and I'm ready for the pain to be soreness... Feeling pretty miserable with the pain

That stupid incision pain SUCKS!!!! There's no other way to put it. It hurts like the dickens no matter what you do. But being 10 days post opt, I encourage you to hang in there...it does ease after a while. I still feel it now, but it's more of a nuisance than a real pain like last week and doesn't hinder my movement (or breathing) like before.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
