Misty,

I weaned myself off soda when I first started all this back in feb, yes it is normal. Stay strong

I am so struggling with this liquid diet. I chewed and spit a bite of chicken. Horrid I know. But I am really questioning if I am even strong enuff to do this or is this a sign of my weakness again? I cant even stay strong thru the liquid phase? Really? Who does that? Ugh. Depression is so not even the word. :(

I was feeling that way around day 4. I was questioning if I could do it, if I even wanted to do it. This is day 6 or 7 for me. It is getting a lot better.

My surgery was 7/8 gastric bypass roux en y. I was very scared and nervous, I don't remember anything..lol I did have a lot of motion sickness and my blood pressure and diabetes number sored, but the doctor advise me that would go away, and it did. Before I went in to my room for pre-op, the nurse had me step on scale and it was 216lbs. The past few days I have just been really sleepy and try to take all my Vitamins and drink my Protein shakes. But I will tell you, that my CRAVING for food is gone, it use to be just the mention of a food item and I was out the door to find it and eat , now I have make a schedule to make sure I get everything it. I would tell anyone that is thinking about the surgery to pray about and then do it. I am so happy, and feel better everyday.

I'm having surgery Monday. I am really sick of the liquid diet. I am so weak I almost passed out yesterday. I'm drinking the Protein shakes and taking the Vitamins so I don't know what gives. My blood pressure is lower than normal....which is weird because it is usually high. I guess all I had to do to keep it under control was starve  Yawl keep me in your prayers and I will do the same for you.

I struggled terribly with the liquid diet. My saving go to liquid was strained cream of potato Soup followed by a sf popsicle or sf Jello. It filled me and made me 'feel' like I was having a meal. Do you have to do the mag citrate on Sunday?

No I don't have to do the Mag Citrate....thank goodness. I drank a "green" drink off Joe Cross website just because I was so sick of the shakes....handful of spinach, apple, dash of Tabasco, cup of Water. Drink and stand next to the toilet....very cleansing  I think I will blend up some Soup. Thanks for the idea.

Franyfamilia I am having gb surgery Monday also! I'm starving right now but found that counting the hours until surgery seems to help me lol I only have 60 more hours of starving to go ;)

Auntie Rose,

I will try counting the hours. I only have to starve one more day after today  Well, we will be kind of starving, but hopefully our appetite will not tell us about it every second. I don't think I have been getting enough Protein on my liquid diet and am just so weak. I am rushing around trying to get as much done around the house as possible. If my energy doesn't pick up the housework is going to get done in bits and pieces.... Not to mention the horses, dogs, cats, pig, goat, kids and husband that have to be cared for. The husband and kids can survive temporarily on their own but the mess may not be worth it

My 30 minute walk everyday will have to be on a stationary bicycle! Are you having any trouble with weakness???

Good luck with your surgery. What time are you having it? I have to be at the hospital at 8:00 a.m. and the surgery is scheduled for 10:30. My husband is trying to talk me out of having it. He says if I just diet like I have been doing I will lose the weight. I lose 20 lbs and gain back 30 or 40. He just realizes what a drastic change this will be and is scared for me. ME TOO!

Franyfamilia this is hard but we can do it. If dieting had been successful in the past we wouldn't need the tool of this surgery. I'm tired and grumpy and hungry but a year from now I will be able to play with my nephew and dance with my friends so this is worth it. I listen to my body...if I'm tired I sleep. It sounds like u are spread thin because you take care if everyone but it may be time to make yourself a priority and elicit help with the house and animals...46 hours until my surgery and 47 hours until you check in! We are almost there!!

I'm glad you mentioned grumpy. I had a full crying spell the other day over nothing. We took the kids to a horse show last night and the smell of grill hamburgers, hot dogs, and nachos just about did me in. I told my husband if he saw me wrestling with a little kid over his hot dog to please stop me.

Yes, we can get through this. Clear liquids today and then surgery tomorrow. Good luck to you my friend. God bless and keep you.

Fran

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
