I have not had any Protein bars yet but I should be able to have them now. I'm 6 weeks post op & would like to try some bars. Any suggestions as to what is good & what's not so good. I'd hate to spend a bunch of money to only end up with a nasty tasting Protein Bar.

Thanks so much for everyone's comments.

I love Quest bars - 20 gm protien, and only 3g net carbs per bar. There are lots of flavors; my faves are Cookies & creme, chocolate chip cookie dough and vanilla almond. I purchase them online, from www.questnutrition.com, because (a) I buy a LOT of them, and stores won't always have the quantities I want; and (B) the ones I've bought in stores aren't as fresh as those I get online.

For me, 1 Quest bar = 1 fully satisfying meal. For convenience and because I love the flavor, I would be quite happy eating a bar for 3 of my 4 meals each day. However, I've found if I eat more than 1 Quest bar per day, I stop losing weight. I don't gain any, but I don't lose any either. I think it's because I'm on the Atkins diet and the Quest bars probably have some sugar alcohols that interfere with that.

I bought the Pure Protein Bars at costco. I do not really like them but I have never tried the Quest bars. I love the Atkins bars but I am not sure they really have enough Protein in them.

My favorites are also the Quest bars same as JeanZ_RN. I also like the PowerCrunch bars but I don't think they are quite as nutritious as the Quest bars. I have also found the Pure Protein bars to be ok too especially the chocolate Peanut Butter one.

Quest is good, but go easy until you know how they affect you. They are super high in Fiber as well as protein!

So where can I buy one or two Quest bars? Do any stores carry them? I do not want to order a box until I have tried them.

You can buy Quest bars at GNC...they are pricey.. I think $2.99 each. Sometimes they are buy 2 get one free. I like Premier Protein bars at Walmart, $1.18 each.

If you send them an email on the site, Quest will send you bars to try. When I asked, they had me choose 2 bars. They pick up all of the cost. They also periodically run specials for a free bar.

There are variety boxes on the site & on Amazon too.

The Atkins chocolate Chip granola are decent tasting. 200 calories 16g Protein and 3g net carbs. And you can pick them up at just about any grocery store.

Another vote for Quest bars here too after trying several other types. Love the Choc Chip Cookie Dough and Double Choc Chunk and some of the fruit varieties. Just need to check the nutrition info carefully on whatever type you choose to make sure it fits in with your food needs and then do some taste tests.

I am 100% team Quest. The bars are great, and seem like the best choice nutrition-wise. Quest also has unbeatable customer service, in my opinion.

Thanks for all the comments on Protein bars. I went with the Quest bars. I ordered a box of mixed flavors. Looking forward to another way of getting in my protein.

I haven't like most of the Protein bars I've tried...pure, premier, Quest, muscle milk, etcetera. They all have a nasty artificial stale taste and aftertaste to me. And the thick, gooey, whey protein glob texture is awful. The only two I've liked are Natures Valley Protein (real nuts, not a textured glob) and GNC Lean Bar (like eating a rice crispy bar). Both come in a variety of flavors.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
