Stuggling with weight gain.

Recommended Posts

Hey all :-)

I've been banded for nearly 2 years now and I started my journey at 130kg. I lost 43kg in the first year yet I've slowly put on 10kg the last 10 months.

I met my now fiancée a year ago and that's when I started getting "comfortable". I stopped going to the gym and started eating "junket" again (no where near as much as I was). I find if I eat I'm eating more than I use too.

I need some tips on how to get back on track and I don't know if I need another fill, or should try the liquid stage again to "shrink" my pouch incase I've stretched it a bit. Any help will be greatly appreciated.... I'm ready to do it properly again I've let myself fall behind the 8 ball.

I will add I am back at gym but struggling to keep in routine. I sometimes skip days and might not go for a week at a time

Well, you're taking the right step getting back into the gym. You have do something repetitively to form a habit and forming a habit to go to the gym is what you'll need to do. Does your fiancee use your gym? maybe you can make it a routine for the two of you. Hubby and I do, though we each do our own thing once we get there. Recently I've taken up cycling and love that. I would consider seeing the surgeon, maybe it is time for a fill. It's easy to get complacent and go back to the old ways. I almost bought a candy bar last night. A candy bar wouldn't have been the end of the world, but it would have opened the door I'm trying to close on the old me and what helped to make me fat. I bought a peach instead and convinced myself that it tasted better than the candy bar. I at least was guilt free.

I think you might be describing my life lol. I fell off the wagon the last 2 years and about 3 weeks ago I got back on and have lost 5lbs. You just have to decide that you are worth it and your happiness is important. You have to make time for you! I was giving my time to other things and wasn't working out and watching what I was eating. I was so unhappy. Even with just this 5lb weight loss I'm so much happier. You can do this!

Thanks heaps everyone.

It's hard being the only person I know with a band in my circle of friends and in my family.

Their bad habits slowly rubbing off on me and they aren't the blame... It's my fault for letting myself fall back into old habits. It's my choice at the end of the day and now I choose to have my healthy life style back.

I have always been made to feel guilty for not joining in on nights out drinking and partying. I haven't had a drink in 2 weeks and my fiancée hasn't either. He has been a great support and I tell you what, so have all you guys. I really do love this group and getting support from everyone who knows what I am going through. Not even that but people who have a band and can help me with hints and tricks to keeping on track. You're all amazing x

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
