do you notice a pattern with WL?

Recommended Posts

I am 5 weeks out and stalled again. This one has lasted about 10 days. The pattern I am noticing is where I stall. Before surgery I had tried to lose weight and would always get stuck right before reaching the 100's. I am stuck there again after surgery. Is this a body reaction or something I should not be facing after surgery? (As in i need to change something) understand plateaus are normal, but are they usually along the same lines as plateaus before?

My longest stall so far (over a month) was at 185. 185 is the number I have hit every time I had a little success with that old diet and exercise routine. Also, that is the weight that I have carried most of my overweight life. From there it bounced bak up over 200 many times. 185 is the weight I was packing when I had a stroke in 2010. I finally broke past it and am now flucuating around 175. So....it looks like this is going to be stairstep on the way down to my goal weight. This fat is going out kicking and screaming

180 is the number my body seems to like to hold on to....before surgery and now after.

Prior to surgery I never got lower than 180....now I am a little over 2 months out and have been between 180-181 for the past week.

I do think we may have a "sweet spot" that can take longer to conquer.

When I see 179 I am going to Celebrate big time!!! It just may take a little longer than I'd like

Other than the dreaded three week stall I consistently lost for four months. Then from that point till today (7 months out) I have noticed that I consistently "stall" for 2-3 weeks--the scale barely moves yet I lose inches--and then have a nice weight drop for a week of two. This cycle lasts a month. My graph on my fitness pal bears it out. It's weird! Straight line and then big drop. Kind of like stair steps! Frustrated the heck out of me the first time...second time a little less...now I am used to it and don't stress out about it.

I think this is normal. I have definitely noticed that there are certain points I have trouble getting past. I always had trouble getting below 205 and then I do ok until about 179. 179 is a booger for me to get past but I finally made it. Like jess mentioned, I also have a few weeks out of each month where I seem to lose NOTHING and then, suddenly, I drop 5 lbs in a week. I'm sure it's fluctuation of Water weight but geez....it's frustrating!

@@jess9395 I feel that my weight loss has a monthly cycle too, that goes along with my period. Two weeks leading up to my period? Barely lose. Two weeks after? Lose like crazy!

It is comforting to read this because I am have also been stalled for about a week at 169. That number sounds pretty good until you see I am only 5'1. 170 is a historic stalling point for me. So I was super excited to get to 169, but now I just want to get moving again!!! Slow and steady wins the race, right?!!!

Makes sense! Mine isn't related to my cycle...I went through early menopause last year at 43 so maybe it's a relic.

I have noticed that my stall time is getting longer as I get closer to my goal weight. I was stuck at 180 for over a month and then lost an ave of 3 lb a month for a few months. Then another stall. I have made it to 150 but the scales are again bouncing 150 to 152 for the past week. Instead of focusing on the stall, I try to think positive that I have succeeded in getting closer to my goal. Also, I am wearing size 8-10 clothes. Time will tell if I will get to 125 lbs. I will be patient.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
