Hi all.....This is something I have struggled with doing for a year now. I finally decided to go forward w the surgery so that I can get my life back. I have a BMI of 41 and once that number was told to me I cried knowing I allowed myself to get this big. I have struggled my whole life with weight and come from a family where everyone is smaller and I am the big girl. I take after my dad. It's was rough....but now I am ready to change my life around.

Only thing I gotta wait til Nov for my sleeve due to insurance. But it's all good cuz I know it will be here before I know it. Anyone else new and waiting like myself .....

Well, you are in the right place if you want to talk with people who have down that road, as well as those who are with you and right behind you. Guaranteed, about a week before surgery, you will be telling us how nervous you are because surgery is ONLY a week away!!!!!! I can't believe that in two days I will be six months out, and it seems like my surgery was yesterday. The time will fly.

And yes it does feel like forever. I was told w these nutrionist appointments for the next 6 months it allows me to prepare more in stages for my new eating habits and it will give a greater success. So I am happy and thankful to just be able to make this change and know time will fly by and it will be surgery tome before I know it

Hi capi

I am in the same boat (well a higher bmi) so I know what you are feeling. I have to wait until Dec bc of the insurance. I'm a little frustrated at having to wait 6 -7 months now that I'm ready to get started. But at least that time allows me to get all the pre op stuff done a little at a time.

Ya its frustrating but it allows us to get everything done and also make some small changes daily so when it comes to the big change our mind set is semi prepared. Today went to store and decided to challenge myself to 1 wk prep op diet for Breakfast and lunch to see what it's like sticking to diet. Crazy I know but I also put together a Thinner Me List of things I want to do and things I never would do cuz of my weight get excited thinking of what is to come

Stay in touch w me.....we can be sleeve buddies since we are having ours done around same time

My BMI was 46 before surgery (I have always been the heaviest of all my brothers and sisters... 5 of us). I also have outweighed my husband the majority of our 14 year marriage. It has been emotionally rough pretending that the jolly fat girl everyone sees on the outside struggles to be free. My 6 month pre-op flew by and at 7 weeks post-op my BMI has already dropped by 8 points and hubby outweighs me now. The next few months will go quickly for you too. Best of luck as you begin your journey!

I too have to wait due to insurance. My surgery should be in August. Haven't gotten a specific date. I have been preparing myself by drinking two, protein shakes a day and walking a ton. I cannot wait for my surgery. I wish I could have it tomorrow. A little worried about being able to get all the Protein and Water in after my surgery it is hard for me to get 64 ounces of water in now and I haven't even had the surgery yet. Good luck on your journey. I love reading all the posts on here it is very helpful.

I agree it is very helpful reading these posts and knowing there are a lot of others that are going through this or have gone through this. I believe unless you have it is hard to relate to all that we go through. It definitely has been great having this outlet.

Hi all! New poster...just got insurance approval yesterday. Yay!!! Have pre-op appts July 8, and then have to get date for actual surgery. Work issues will make it have to wait until October from what I can tell. Soooo excited. I just started this end of April/early May so that part was relatively fast. I'm older at 52 and excited to be on this new me path. Good luck all!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
