anyone familiar with Pure Protein bars?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am going to London and Wales for a 2 week vacation with family members and 70 lb thinner. I have been trying to come up with good Protein snacks/meal replacements since I am thinking there may not be too much on the menu for me to eat since I am only 4months out. I also don't want to pay for meals that I can only take a few bites of. hubby is all for splitting meals. I have decided to make snack baggies of one Ounce nuts for after noon Snacks, and looking at the Pure Protein Bars to take along as a Breakfast or lunch Meal Replacement. they are low in sugar and have about 20 grams of protein and the calorie count is about 200. Has anyone had these bars and if so did you like them? if anyone has any suggestion on what to take I would appreciate any suggestions! thank you!

I had one for breakfast today. It was the chocolate deluxe. It was ok, and will work to fill you up for sure. Not super exciting but it got the job done.

I used to eat them all the time before a year ago (my first year) and then the taste began to turn me off. Too chalky and bland. My tastes just changed. I also got wiser about how nutritional low carb Protein bars really are. So I stopped eating pure protein bars. I occasionally eat zone bars because they are more balanced for protein, carb and fat macros. The do have lower protein, higher carbs, but better tasting than pure bars. I like the fudge graham. However, I rarely even eat those because prefer real fresh solid food for most meals of the day (for 2 meals I do usually supplement with shake powders - like the flavor of those). I would say eat the pure bars if you need to and like them, but realize they are not the best for you nutritionally.

I like the pure Protein bars a lot sometimes a little too much. I think the Quest Cookies and cream are also good and a better choice.

Thanks everyone! I think I will take them on vacation. I normally get my Protein from food, but when on vacation these will help to meet my protein goal each day.

I had those at he beginning if I needed something and couldn't make a shake. However, their chalky and I just didn't like the taste. I do have Quest bars tho. The Quest have much more Fiber in them and they don't affect the blood sugars like the pure bars do, at least for me anyways. I'm not diabetic at all, but I do struggle with hypoglycemia.

GNC and Vitamin shoppe have the bars and you can buy just One Bar to try them out first. I also have a few Lenny and Larry's muscle Protein brownies on hand too..those are reserved for cravings tho. The quest bars, I have a chocolate chip cookie dough bar each morning for breakfast.

I tried the Pure Protein once. It wasn't bad, but it was too much like a candy bar for my liking. I prefer Quest bars. They are not as sweet, have a wide variety of flavors, offer the same Protein (20g) with more Fiber and sometimes less calories, and I feel full longer. The consistency of a Quest bar (to me) is a cross between a Tootsie Roll and thick dough. Chewy, and satisfying. I eat one daily for breakfast because I really don't have time for any other option. Everyone will have an opinion and preference, that is mine.

I love Quest too, but sadly they're a little too steep for my budget to have very often. I use Pure Protein bars, but only allow myself a maximum of 3 a week as a snack, never as a meal replacement. You probably won't have an opportunity to do this on vacation, but wanted to share a little tip if you do continue to use them when you are home. If you cut them up into little bite size pieces (about 16) then freeze them, they make a fun summertime frozen treat to melt in your mouth. Also, watch out for the calories/carb/sugar counts on some of the different flavor ones -- the Deluxe Choc, Choc Chip, and Choc PB are all fine but some of the other ones can vary a little more than you might want to go

Have a FUN vacation!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
