Hello,

I had my surgery 2 years ago. After six months of constant throwing up/gagging/getting stuck, I started to eat virtually only liquids. Very little solid food. Unfortunately, all sugary drinks (Starbucks, Jamba Juice) to fill myself. I developed an actual panic when I started to eat solid food thinking I was going to choke.

Fortunately, after nearly a year of ignoring it, I am back on the wagon. I have seen the lap-band nutritionist, who is getting me to finally kick sugar with the help of some supplements, and loosened my band.

It's a long struggle and I'm terrified of not losing weight. My net weight loss after 2 years is only 30 pounds and I'm deeply depressed about my situation and feeling hopeless.

I feel I don't know how to use the band properly.

Anybody else feel this way?

I've seen many posts similar to yours. People fall of the wagon and forget how to use their band. Many never did learn. Don't know if it's due to lack of interest, denial or they have bad Dr follow-up?

I do know that one can commit and get back on the bandwagon if they choose to. But 30 lbs is still quite an achievement after all this time and bingeing on sweet drinks.

Learning how to eat with the band will be your next challenge. Eating slow, chewing to mush and eating small isn't something most obese people learn easily. Keep working at it and keep us informed?

An amazing story and fortuitous opportunity to reinvent yourself!

Other than the obvious errors of nutrition in the sugar-Water routine you mention, I simply can not fathom the compulsion many have to alter the basic marvel of "coffee" with anything that turns it into a confectionery treat rather than the role played by the Nobel Gift of caffeine.

The only thing that improves 'coffee' to my own palette is whiskey and I had to give that up decades ago.

It sounds like your Rational Brain is kicking into gear.

I continue to be astounded when I once again bump into how marvelously effective the simple approach of "eat hard Protein first" serves to quell any errant notions of appetite madness.

The physical sensuality of eating our way to morbid obesity is a subject rarely discussed, yet I am convinced that pleasure is one of the triggers of constant sport eating absent any sense of 'hunger'.

My Old Bad Habit of serial snacking is a continual struggle despite my notions of 'hunger' or 'satiety'. Given there are precious few Fluid types I actually consume, at least I don't have to battle the empty liquid-calorie mania. Still there's plenty of other facets to the syndrome of Habitual Overeating.

Cheers on your journey.

Hi there. I used the same practice as you did. I didn't use Dr. Schwack, I used Dr. Ren. Have you spoken to any of the nutritionists in the practice? I spoke to Despina and she gave me the best advice. She said to eat like I was on Weight Watchers and I did. I eat 3 oz. Protein, 1/2 cup of veggies and 1/4 cup carbs for lunch and dinner. As a man, you would obviously eat more than I do but in my daily intake, I never exceeded 1,150 calories and I plugged everything I ate into myfitnesspal. I lost 125+ lbs. in less that 18 months. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions. Maybe I can help.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
