How do you know that your band is where it's supposed to be? How would you know that your band has slipped? How would you know if your pouch was still intact (and not stretched)? Hernias?

I'm just curious. I have had a few instances where I felt too full. It was nearly painful. So, I think to myself, if something ever went wrong with my band, how would I know?

Thanks.

Hi @@RSwann

One thing I am passionate about is using Fluoroscopy to "SEE" everything is well with the band. I speak from experience when I say it can really make a difference. My surgeons office uses it for all adjustments now...and for that I am glad! It is similar to a live Xray if you will. When I get an adjustment, or even just want it, they'll have me stand on a tilt table, they turn the machine on and have me drink a contrast Fluid (barium solution). It shows how fast or slow the Fluid passes through the stoma area and can also show many other things...correct placement, etc. I'd suggest discussing with your surgeon's office about possibly having it done.

This thread actually has a video of what mine looked like about a year ago.

First, you're much too early in this process to be fretting about slips and problems. We all feel full if we eat too much.

Second, only your surgeon can tell if you're band is in trouble and it rarely occurs. Catfish's suggestion is very valid.

If there was a slip it would be very painful and most people can not eat or drink anything without getting sick and some people who have a slip can eat anything and everything but usually severe pain is involved. There will be days when you feel your band isnt working then there is that one little moment when you eat something and it reminds you that it is still there. One time they thought i had a slip and i felt like dying but the fluroscopy showed that everything was fine just some irritation but when in doubt always check with your doctor.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
