Surgery tomorrow so nervous can't sleep!

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for surgery at 730 am tomorrow morning, and I am so scared right now. I am terrified of not waking up of what they will do to me between 530 and 730 while I am awake. I am having second thoughts now for the first time. Is this normal? Can someone please explain exactly what will be done before I'm put to sleep? Like how many shots, etc. Thank you

I think each place does things a little different. Before my surgery i was brought to the pre op room. Changed into a gown. Iv started. They put some teds on my legs and asked a million questions. I met with nurse, doctor, anesthesiologist. They gave me a shot in my belly to prevent blood clots. I said good bye to my family and brought to or room. They put oxygen on me then nighty night i went, woke up a few hours later. Nurses right by my side.in some pain but they were right there to help with that.

Tomorrow I am one week post op. Ironically, I started my period the day before surgery too! It's not so bad. I couldn't and didn't sleep the night before either. You will be alright! I am 6 days out and feel good. I drove for the first time today. My mom has been here taking care of me. I wish you all the best my friend! I am very hopeful of my future. See u on the other side....

My surgery was about 2 weeks ago and to remind you why this is a good idea, I'm 32 lbs down. When they took me back to the prep area, they started my IV, asked a bunch of questions and I met with the nurses, the anestesiologist and the surgeon. I watched some "let's make a deal" because the patient before me was taking longer than expected. My surgeon asked me to empty my bladder right before they gave me the sleeping medicine. I did that, said goodbye to my husband and within 5 minutes of them putting the sleepy meds in I was out. It felt like a short afternoon nap and I woke up in recovery, for me the pain was about a 7 or so (I'm faint hearted with pain) and I kept dozing in and out for about a half hour. Then they wheeled me to my room to meet my husband there.

Just speak up about how you feel both emotionally and physically and they will do everything they can to make you comfortable; that's their job. Good luck to you tomorrow!

I had my surgery on Monday June 9, and I was so nervous as well the last two days before my surgery I kept my self busy, that morning I went to the hospital and everything went well, if you follow your doctor instructions everything will be fine!

My surgery was June 3 and my experience was the same as described here. Once I changed into a gown, I was bundled up with a warm blanket and visited with my mom and sister before they were ready for me.

I also couldn't sleep the night before, so I decided not to fight it and just watched tv and read until I dozed off, which was probably around 3 am. Got plenty of sleep the next day, though!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
