From the mouths of babes

Recommended Posts

I had a really great synchronicity moment today that I think you all might understand. I was changing into a gown to get my upper GI in a little room with my 7 year old twin girls. As I'm changing I am having second thoughts about WLS. As these thoughts are swirling around both my girls look at me and say, without a bit of judgment, "mom, you are big!" My girls never say things like that and it was truly without judgment, just a fact they had just noticed. I don't usually believe in divine inspiration but this ones got me considering it. It's like two little angels reminding me of my commitment to them vis a vis handling my obesity. So, most of my tests done; hopefully I can get approved and scheduled soon. Ready not to be the big mom anymore.

I totally know that feeling :) Good for you - I too am happy to be a healthier mom for my three kids!

My 8 year old son has actually been the most encouraging family member. Prior to my considering bariatric surgery, he never once said anything to me about how big I am. I was just (and still am) his loving and nurturing mama. But since I shared with him what is going to happen, he has become very aware of the changes I want to make and says the most wonderful things. I was watching So You Think You Can Dance last week (my guilty pleasure) and he asked me if I liked dancing. I said that I did and that I wished I could learn. He said, "Maybe after you have your surgery you could take a dance class. I can go with you if you want". <3 He is the light of my life and the reason I am on this path.

I hear you there…especially with little ones.

I have lost 93 pounds and put a before and after pic up on the refrigerator and one in my bathroom…just as a reminder where I NEVER want to be again….and to motivate me to lose the rest!! My 7 year old son asked my why I did it and when I questioned him on the differences in the two pics, he pointed out my clothes were different….LOL….now thats UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!

My daughters have been completely supportive. They're college age now but I sure wish I had been banded when they were little.

it was my 2 yo grand daughter who loved me as I am but really loved it that I told her one of the reasons I was going to lose wt. was so I could play with her easily. she was there for everything. checking my incisions for redness and the icepacks and heating pad etc. and it was just recently that she told me good job gma you don't look like you are having a baby anymore. and I love your cute clothes. it felt so good better than anyone elses remarks over the months. oh she is 4 and 1/2 now.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
