Good afternoon! I was sleeved on May 27th and have recovered pretty well. I had no gas pains in the hospital and very little when I got home. Most of my abdomen is feeling ok except for the large incision on the left where the stomach was removed. It feels like a cramp that you get when you're running except is not a cramp it's pain. I hopes that makes sense! I thought it was gas but I used the Gas X strips with no relief. I was also constipated and my nurse at the office told me to take some Milk of Magnesia which helped me go. The pain however was there before I used it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

On a more positive note, I have lost 17 pounds since starting my pre op diet on May 20th.

I has surgery on the the 28th. Feel about the same as you except its my right side incision that hurts. Constipation hasnt been an issue but diarea has been horrible at times. I am still working on fiinding my full level. I just finished about one serving of cream of chicken Soup and feel I over did it. It is hard for me not to finish my food once I start. For the second time I have put what I couldnt eat away for later. I feel I ate to much and will suffer for a little while. Next time I will measure out about a 1/2 a cup. However I can do a cup on a protien drink with no bad side effects. All food I have mixed with Water with the exception of pudding.

I also had surgery on the 27th! Didn't have problems with gas but I still have pain on the bigger incision which for me is right in the middle of my abdomen. I have like a burning sensation and I get these sharp pains all the time. I guess it's the healing process. I still haven't had a bowel movement, I bought the milk of magnesium but don't know when to take it or how much of it. Any suggestions?

I had surgery on May 12. I was told that pain in the side is where they made the incision through the muscle to remove your stomach. I had the same pain and it eventually went away. If you feel like you are too full or it is stomach gas, chewing gum really helped. DO NOT SWALLOW. I know some doctors say no on that but mine said it was okay if I was certain not to swallow it. Also, walking and getting your fluids in will help with Constipation, along with a daily stool softener.

I had surgery the 27th too. Today I feel terribly drained.I have incision twinge pain at times, modtly on the largest incision. I 've been looding about a pound a day I think, I am still waiting gor the other shoe to drop or someone to tell me the weighloss is only temporary. So yeah I guess the blues have set in too. This too shall pass, right?

I was sleeved on the 29th and my 5 little incisions get itchy which should mean that they are healing. I get sharp pains too and the burning sensation but I think this is all pretty normal recovery for this type of surgery. Otherwise, I feel pretty good except lack of energy. I'm using my Blender Bottle to mix Atkins shake with some skim milk and scoop of Protein powder and it makes a pretty tasty, high Protein Shake except it takes me a couple of hours to finish 8 - 10 ounces. Other liquids go down faster and no problems with Vitamins.

Tonight my husband was watching a cooking show on TV and it's good that I don't have any hunger pains or any cravings cause I realized how many of these food shows we've always watched! It's weird that I don't miss any foods even when I try to think of some that might tempt me but nothing sounds appealing.

Hi,

I was sleeved on the 26th and am still on Clear Liquids. I'm curious how you are able to eat cream of chicken soup so soon after surgery?

My doctor said if I didn't go after 3 days then take the milk of magnesia. So, if you still haven't had a bm, I would go ahead and take it.

I am to have surgery in two days and was told the same thing - clear liquids for one week, then full liquids week 2, then pureed for weeks 3 and 4.

I was never told just clear liquids either. I'm on any liquids only for a week and then I can start incorporating some mushy foods when I'm ready or as my stomach feels like having them. I drink Water and flavored water and my Protein Shakes for now and this weekend I'll consider adding some pureed foods in tiny little bites.

Every dr has different rules. Mine was a week of liquids (all not just clear) then a week purée then a week soft.

I'm 2 weeks all liquids then 1 week-10days purée then basically at one month I can have soft foods

Hello all. I was sleeved on 29th of May Nuffield Hosp Leeds. I am on 2 weeks fluids, but that includes cream Soups, slimfast shakes, plain yogurt, milk, Water, build up and other such things. The recommended diets seem to be different from country to country. I feel OK on this diet, but have no bm for about a week now. Think I might try the milk of magnesia as this doesn't feel right. Other than that feeling a little tired and windy but good.

I would definitely say to anyone out there getting worried or having second thoughts - just do it. Considering the amount of surgery it is amazing how quickly things start to feel better. Good luck everyone.

I am one week post surgery from having a sleeve (May 27th). On day 5 I developed a very scary double vision and numbness around my mouth. It lasted for an hour and a half until I came home and ate some hard candies and then it went away. Don't know it was sugar related or dehydration. Day 6 I felt drained and had another blurry vision episode and took 3 naps. Day 7 I am pushing myself to get more Protein and more fluids. This is hard.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
