My hospital calls it same day surgery too but I spent 2 nights in the hospital. It is very confusing.

Mine was done on outpatient - I was in at 6:00 am and in the car at noon on the same day.

Some docs will keep you a couple of nights, others on outpatient. They will not let you go home if you aren't ready - make sure you are your own advocate in that regard. I could have stayed longer, but I was ready to leave.

My is on Monday at 11:30am and they told me that make sure to come with a person to drive me back home... I will stay if I don't feel ready to leave, but if I do I will come back home happily.

Thanks for your replies guys :)

Mine was a Tuesday am went home on Thursday am. They need to monitor vitals plus I case any complications, empty the port.... Can't imagine leaving the same day unless it was lap band

Everyone who had any type of elective surgery at my hospital had to check in at the same day surgery unit. You checked in the same day of your surgery, not that you went home the same day. I had my surgery on a Monday and went home two days later.

That makes same... I rather go home the same day if I feel ok but if I don't I'd like to be supervised one night at least. Why two nights later? Everything ok?

I agree .. I'm definitely going mentally ready to stay overnight.

My hospital/surgeon keeps everyone two days for any bariatric surgery. I should say I stayed two nights, I left the third day, after lunch.< /p>

I think most people with a sleeve spend 2 nite (I did). And thank God I did. Loved the IV Dilauded I received, and the care the nurses gave me. Can't inmagine doing it OP.

Ur insurance has much to say about how long u stay also. I have Medicare and they require a 1 nite stay with the lapband (which I had in 2009) and a 2 nite stay with either the sleeve or RNY.

I actually missed the hospital bed when I got home. WHile it's not the most comfy mattress, it's easier to get in and out of bed when u can raise the head.

Good luck!

I couldn't wait to get home. I had to stay one night but I did everything I could to ensure I could go home the next day. I have a Tempurpedic bed and the head and foot raise so I was dying to get home to my comfy bed. It's spoiled me so badly that I hate even staying at a hotel.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
