The nursing staff on the bariatric unit are amazing. I had two c-section at Winnie Palmer and IMO the care on the bariatric unit was more caring and helpful (and I loved my care at Winnie).

You will be in great hands and Drs. T and Jawad (and their staff) are wonderful.

Keep us posted on your progress!

I live in Winter Springs off 17-92/434 and having gastric bypass at Orlando Health also. The only thing I have left is psych eval on June 30th then they will submit to Tricare. I'm hoping and praying everything goes smoothly with insurance and scheduling I'm ready to get this done! scared but excited...

My surgery date is fast approaching -- July 14. I'll be sleeved with Dr. Jawad. I start my 2-week pre-op diet next week and couldn't be more ready. I'm off of work all summer, so it's perfect timing. I'm really enjoying "talking" to everyone on the Facebook groups and here on this thread. As great as my doctor's office is, it's the real talk with real people that is comforting.

When did you get your surgery date? Hypothetically if I had everything complete and insurance approved by July 3rd when do you think I would be scheduled for surgery. I'm on a couple of Facebook pages. I love the since of community and support on here.

I've been wondering the same thing as well, given my 6 mo diet plan ends in October I'm worried about a fast approaching end of the year. The last thing I want is for there to be a change in my insurance!

I went in on June 4 to finalize everything and get my date, and I was scheduled for July 14. So what's that…about 5 weeks? That was his first available date. But I'm sure it varies by surgeon and whatever happens to be going on at the moment (doctor vacations and such…).

Hello Orlando peeps,

I didn't even know we had a locals part of this site until just now. My name is James. I had my sleeve done by Dr. Jawad on June 25th. It was a great experience. I was only in the hospital over night. My pain is minimal and I was back sitting at my desk in 3 working days (+ a weekend). I'll be getting my staples out Monday. Can't wait.

Perhaps I'll see some of you at the group meeting in a week.

I think that there is a nutrition class every Thursday at 1pm and a support class every Thursday just after at 2pm. I went last Thursday to the nutrition class but Gal was on vacation. I'll try and go this week if I can.

I just got sleeved by Dr. Beltre out of Altamonte springs on 9/9/15. It was great! No complications. He does have a free monthly seminar. Check out dates on saynotoobesity.com

So happy to find a local page. My surgery is Oct. 14th with Dr. Jawad. Next week starts my 2 week diet. Any suggestions from those already through the process?

Hello all, I live in Winter Park but got sleeved in Miami two weeks ago. Does anyone know of any support groups in the area that would be open to patients from other surgeons? Would love to get to know some folks locally.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
