Hi plopez :D mine is next Tuesday at the same time. I did get clarification on the carb thing though. It's 20 calories total, so I was wrong.

I haven't been writing them down either but I've basically been eating meat, cheese and salad with olive oil. My head was killing me today. I'm super nervous too. Do you have an endoscopy tomorrow? I have mine and it's at 7 am in SA. Whew that's early.

Hi,

I'm getting ready to start the lap band journey. Will be getting my physical next week. What pre surgery diet do you have to do?

Thanks for any advice.

Glad to see a few others with a June date! Hope all goes well. So we have to swallow barium prior to surgery? I think my doc is doing it after.. @@Makingchanges, the pre op diet is a very low carb high Protein one. For mine, I am allowed 800 calories a day...but each surgeon requires different diets. I am drinking two Protein shakes and eating one meal with Protein and green vegetables. I am surprised to read some surgeons don't require any diet...as it is meant to shrink the liver so it is easy to place the band.

Forgot to say the diet...at least mine...is only during the 2 weeks prior to surgery.

Junebug36,

I'm getting my surgery in Texas. Sounds like each doctor and clinic has different ways of doing pre-op. Not sure when I'll have my surgery as they haven't yet done the physical.

Appreciate your info. Here's wishing you the greatest results. Keep us posted.

Barium is gross... It's super heavy and waaaay thick. And it does NOT taste good AT ALL. You have to drink it before the EKG. It allows the radiologist to see what's going on inside of you. It's a short process, but one I'd rather not repeat! Even them handing me the cup what a bit freaky. I swear it easily weighed a pound.... Have you done it yet?

For all who are doing Atkins or are low carbing...you are going through sugar withdrawal by cutting out processed sugars. You may have headaches and even neasea. Try drinking chicken or beef broth every 2-4 hours, the salt helps with the symptoms. It works.

My understanding is that the barium swallow is for fluoroscopy to see if there are any leaks and to also get a baseline on where or what position your band is placed. In case you ever have slippage in the future, they'll be able to look at another swallow to see if there is a difference in position. Some surgeons use fluoroscopy for fills as well, to make sure the fill is allowing enough liquid through.

Plopez, I'm not sure. I will certainly fill you in on my experience, so you'll know what to expect. I hope it's not too much, cuz from what it sounds like; it's hard to get the 4 oz of liquid down an hour as expected.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
