Swimming after being banded

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

I haven't been banded yet, but my first pre-op appointments and testing are scheduled for about a month from now, and I am so over-studied in banding it's rediculous! :) Now I'm onto the "What-if" scenarios, lol.

I was wondering if anyone knows how long after being banded and after fills it takes until you're allowed to swim in a public (gross, I know!) pool. Swimming is the only way by big butt can excerise right without me being afraid that I'm going to work myself right into a heart-attack! I can barely tie my shoes without keeling over! :faint:I would assume that once the wounds from the surgury are mostly healed, any chemicals in the pool would protect you from bacteria and getting infections, right???

Does anyone have some knowledge they want to pass this way????

:) Thanks everyone!!!!

:kiss2:Lots of LOVE,:kiss2:

Good question, I was wondering the same thing. I not banded yet waiting until July. But I go to the first meeting this Tuesday and want to start early. I hope I don't have a 6 month wait like some of these people. I am in Michigan and I guess it depends on the state or insurance. don't know.

Good luck

Keep me informed how your doing. When is your surgery scheduled for.

Sandy

Hey Sandy!

My first pre-op appointments are for May 15th, and I know that the hospital where I have decided to get my surgury usually quotes a 3 month time span between your first pre-op appointment and your surgery date, so I am assuming that I will have my surgery in mid-August. I totally couldn't stand to wait six more months, I don't think! I'm already cruising websites to try and decide what clothes I want to buy when I hit my goal weight! haha. Sad, I know! :)

Is your meeting this Tuesday an appointment or one of the meetings you need to attend before you can schedule doctors appointments? Keep me updated on your process! It will be great to have somebody to talk to who is going through the same thing at around the same time!!!

Girl!!!!

Im 370 lbs,,,,,,well actually 360 if my scale is right today....LOL....and 2 years ago i ASKED THE VERY SAME QUESTION.....I was convinced I would have a heart-attack working out...and i told everyone i need to do pool exercises.,.....well.......the trouble it took to get out of the house...get my suit on...get in the pool and work out....get out of the pool...then go into locker rooms and either take a shower or do the shower thing at home was SOOOOOOO EXHAUSTING!!!!!!

I eventually stopped and made excuses for myself because walking would make my heart beat so fast it was rediculous.......

So recently when i realized i was 2 yrs post op and i had excused myself from everything....i was still 370lbs and everyone looked at me like "even the surgery didnt help".....

DONT MAKE EXCUSES FOR YOURSELF......I know this is totally off subject......and not what you asked for but i soooooooosee myself in your writing....email me for some moral support...lets walk together...

WALKING SUCKS....AND IT DOES MAKE THE HEART BEAT.....BUT START SLOW AND WORK YOUR WAY UP........I will call you and motivate you to get off the couch if you'd like!!!!

I've lost 10lbs in 4 days JUST FROM WALKING...and it was only 2miles an hour.....cant beat that!!!!

I never lost anything from the POOL! Althought I LOVE SWIMMING.......being a big girl.....you know what im talking about....

As far as getting in the pool post-op....as long as your scars are healed you can get on in......when i wanted to get in i put a waterproof bandaid over my scars and did just fine.

Email me for some motivation!!!!:clap2:

I swim alot. I had to wait three weeks - until my incisions had healed completely.

I would wait until your incisions are completely healed. After one of my surgeries I didn't wait until the incisions were completely closed up and I got an infection. Kids pee in pools and pee is not sterile (despite what some people think)

Actually, urine IS sterile, but not after it has been exposed to the elements. Just a little trivia for ya.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
