Vacationing after lap band? How long to wait

Recommended Posts

I can't wait to get this done, but will summer vacations get In the way? How many weeks after surgury will I be ok to go away so others don't suspect anything? This is my secret

Depends on your surgeon... For me, post op was 2 weeks liquids, 2 weeks puréed and then slowly start into solids easily. I've seen others with 4 weeks liquids, etc.

My surgeon went through my belly button so I really don't have any significant scars. I think my belly was bruised for about 4-6 weeks after surgery. If I remember, I wasn't cleared for swimming for about 4 weeks post op.

Did you have other types of concerns? I'd suggest to go before a fill and not immediately after a fill in case you have any issues.

I had one day liquids then on to full liquids for a week, mushies.for a week then soft foods for a week...post-op protocols vary greatly. Find out your doctor's protocol and plan to follow it perfectly and you'll do great. You know, if you're the person on vacation making smoothies, etc., every one else is going to want one. Say you're cleansing and getting healthy, which you are!

I was banded March 13. I was on full liquids 6 weeks post-op and banned from the swimming pool for four weeks. Got my first fill at 6-1/2 weeks and then was back on liquids for two days. I would normally be scheduled for my second fill three weeks after my first, but that would put my second fill just days before a trip abroad. So we're waiting to do my second fill until I return from Europe. I've been advised not to eat one hour before, during, or one hour after the flight due to swelling and tightness that occurs when you fly. I can and should drink Water in flight. I'm very glad I got a fill before my trip, although I was nervous before I did so. Go for it. Get your surgery. There will never be a perfect time, so stop waiting to start your life. It's so worth it. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
