TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!

Always, never ever ever stop taking your Vitamins if you have had a sleeve or a bypass. You must take vitamins forever. I see so many patients in the clinic that have stopped taking their vitamins years after WLS and are sick. If you are Vitamin deficient you won't feel good and you are more likely to get sick. I know they suck, but take them!

Please :) I don't want to see any of you sick in ten years!!

Hello everyone, i am a new member and not sure if i am posting in the right area, but......

It took me a very long time to find Vitamins I could tolerate. My problem was the taste. It was so nasty that it made me nauseous. My nutritionist recommended all of these different ones Nd advised to try to stay away from the gummies because it's harder to absorb. I had to turn to gummies as a last resort. I started feeling so weak and just overall sick before taking them. I use a multi-Vitamin for men 3 times a day because of the higher dosage for each Vitamin.

If u can tolerate drinking maybe try supplements that mix with Water. Have you tried any of the Bariatric Advantage products? They have a Multi-Vitamin crystals that also provide 25g of Protein. The Nutritionalist said that the Bariatric Advantage products were the best way to go. There is no doubt in my mind that they are, but i just cant do it.

I order my Vitamins from www.celebratevitamins.com

The grape Iron is awesome, the Multivitamins are good too; my favorite flavors are grape and mandarin orange, their lemon Calcium soft chews are very very good however the chocolate didn't do it for me. If you need D3, they have a sublingual that is pretty good. As far as B12, I prefer Nasobal which is a weekly nasal spray.

You have to get your Vitamins in guys, it's so important. Just keep trying until you find vitamins you can tolerate!

I tried to take Vitamins last night , well I became insanely sick and wanted to hurl. Any help on how to maybe break things up ? Or am I doing this wrong??

Multi and Iron are chewable

did you take them on an empty stomach? many Multi Vitamins can be tough on a stomach with no food. i take a liquid multi and its very gentle. but i am still careful about when i take them.

I buy the fusion multi Vitamins (gummies) at Walgreens or Jewel. I take 2 in the morning and 2 at night along with a tiny Vitamin D capsule, that's it. My labs come back perfect. There are surgeons who recommend taking Flinestone Vitamins, they also work fine. You don't need to spend a fortune to get sufficient sources of nutrients. If you compare ingredients between the standard (fusion) vitamins and the more expensive Bariatric Advantage vitamins they match up almost one for one. I would add that if you have problems with a Vitamin deficiency you should maybe take a specialty type of vitamin but if your eating well, it's probably not necessary to go to spendy.

I agree that there are vitamins that compare to the bariatric specific brands but in clinic there are so so many people who are Iron deficient so IMO unless your labs show constant high levels of Iron, you need to be taking an iron supplement. I'm not as picky with patients on Calcium but iron is just so important that it's worth it to me to take a chewable once a day, plus if you get the right kind it's cheap and doesn't taste bad.

I absolutely agree - If my labs ever came back with a deficiency I'd address it with whatever is needed.

I have a real problem taking Vitamins with Iron. I've never been anemic or even close even during pregnancies. My obgyn tried to put me on prenatals with Iron and immediately have me stool softener a to go along with them. I immediately tossed the script in the trash and found a good multi without iron.

Since surgery I've had lots of problems with Constipation again on multis with iron. Even taking stool softeners twice a day and taking Fiber isn't helping. So I'm switch back to my iron free. If my lab tests come back with low iron I'll talk to the doctor about other options but I just afford to stay this constipated because I'm taking something I don't need.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
