June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

o2b--Could you possible be drinking too fast--which is causing you to throw up? Maybe try sipping slowly for a couple of days--until the band adjust itself.

Suzz--didn't you say that Stef had texted you once? Could you text her back and ask her to post just ease all of our minds?

BTW--where are those one year pix??

Joey--60bls is GREAT--where are you pix? I too wished to be furhter along at the 1 year mark, but I thank God for the loss so far. I will just keep plugging alone. I've decided to TRY and go back to eating the way that I am suppose to.

I know I know I need to do pix... I just an frustrated that I've gained back 15-20 pounds... even my jeans which were getting baggy are now a bit snug. I don't want to be photographed at all... I'm depressed about my weight and just overall blah...

As for Miss Stef. She has abandoned us all. I don't know how to put it. I have no clue what has happened. I've called her, texted her, emailed, her, msged her here and on myspace. She hasn't loggged on here in over a month, but logs on her myspace nearly daily. I knw she's read my msg there, but she's never responded... I hope whatever is going on in her life that she is well and will come back to let us know how she is doing...

I know I should ask my doctor but I'd love to hear your opinions. I am going on my round the world trip (for a year!) in 17 days!

Lately, after and overfill and partial unfill, I have put on a lot of weight (20 pounds also, you're not alone Suzzie). This is due to 'eating around the band' as well as the unfill.

The thing is, I don't know whether or not to get another fill. It could be my last chance for a year. I don't want to undo all my weight loss on this holiday. On the other hand, a band slippage or any other issue is not covered by my travel insurance.

I am happy with the level of fill I have now but I am gaining weight which scares the heck out of me. Then again, I'm comfort eating and not exercising. I tend to lose weight on holidays.

I was in so much pain last time I had an overfill and would hate for it to happen in another country.

I know a year-long holiday won't generate much sympathy but what should I do?

Hey Insub! I'm so excited about your trip!! Please be sure to check in often!

As far as the fill/unfill thing goes... how much did you have taken out? If it was like 1cc or something, could you have 1/2 that put back in? Just a suggestion.

When I eat RIGHT my fill is fine... trouble is that I'm a BULK eater... so once I discovered how to safely eat around the band... yeah. I'm sick about it!! I need to fire up my BodyBugg again and get my arse moving!!

Well, I got really sick yesterday, retching, couldn't swallow anything...throwing up every hour or so (saliva) and in PAIN. I got scared. I drove myself...couldn't get ahold of dh....with my 15 yo daughter, who would drive the car to the side of the road and call for help if needed, the 1 1/2 hours to my fill doc, and had EVERYTHING removed from my band. While she was removing it, she told me she was pretty sure my band had slipped and I was getting on a plane to Mexico in the morning to have surgery, no fooling around...I was going. I got some Water after she removed everything....and couldn't tell if it was going down or not, just there was no pain, so that was good. I sat and drank a few more sips.....then waited...the sipped some more. It was gooooooood! They had some split pea soup....I carefully had some of that...avoiding the chunks....seemed good. Whew! She still thought I might need to go if anything else occurred, but all seems fine now except I can eat anything and everything and my appetite came ROARING back......my tummy rumbling like a freight train. OMG I forgot how hungry I get. I hate that. I'm half relieved, half disgusted that I lost my restriction. It had to be done though. I just knew it was at that point. I thought about getting 2.0 more cc out, but as sick as I was, when I finally got there, I said get it all out of me. She took out another 6.0. I am still deyhdrated and having leg cramps that get me up at night and I have to run scalding water over my lower legs to get them loose enough to stop screaming! Feeling awesome though today! LOL I'm still debating heading down to Mexico and have my band looked at, in case I need anything, but I think it might be overkill, so I'll try to wait this out. I will be on willpower! I'll have to eradicate everything bad from my house and fill my fridge with lean meats and veggies. No white stuff!!!

Nice to see more of our Junies posting! Yay!

dang it Rhonda, I am sorry you had trouble again! Can't you go to a hospital near you and have a barium swallow?

Insub - you have a very hard decision - I like Suzzie's suggestion of just a 1/2cc, so you have some control. I know I have none myself when I am out of town - see post of gaining 5lbs in 3 days in Chicago! I can't imagine what I would let myself do in a whole year! Now if you are staying in hotels and think you will really dedicate yourself to visiting the gym when available and you are walking or doing other activities, then maybe you don't need the fill.

We expect to see posts about your exciting adventures! What is your itinerary?

I think of you all often!

Insub: Here's my two cents: Go immediately and get a little fill. This will give you approx 15 or so days for your band to adjust before the trip. I would think that it would be better to eat more, gain weight and then when you come back get it adjusted and loose the weight again. Or you could get an overfill and be sick for an entire year!!!

Thanks BigBaby. I've heard that people who log their food lose twice as much weight. I also know I just gotta keep my butt moving! Hike, walk, swim, bike, garden! I know I can do it....also just eating good stuff and no white!!

I went for a walk yesterday... I hadn't walked in a long time, so I only did 2.5 miles, but I can totally feel it.

And I did the stupidest thing. You'd think I'd learn?? I hadn't eaten anything yet yesterday, and It was 91 degrees out. I was plenty hydrated and even took Water with me... Anyway. After my walk I felt fine. I was tired and REALLY sweaty, but I needed to run by Dollar Tree to get a couple things... while in line there alllll of a sudden my blood sugar just waved goodbye. My vision was almost completely gone, mostly just black flecks floating around and every voice and noise sounded like it was coming through a tunnel. It was really awful. I reached over and grabbed some sugary beverage that claimed to be fruit punch and dropped my purse trying to open it up. I drank about half of it, while sitting on the floor. People staring at me. I was in line to check out... so sitting in the floor drinking was very noticable. Other than being embarrassed, I'm fine.

So yeah. From now on I need to EAT. Duh. I've always had blood sugar problems, cause I'm insulin resistant. (opposite of diabetic.)

Hello all Junies!! I am not sure why I have not been posting, I usually would make time every morning to do just that. I kept thinking of you all and wondering how you were hanging in there!

Yes the heat has arrived! It is close to 100 here in VA and I am indoors today. We went to a neighbors for a cook out and I felt like I was the only one wiping my face! I ended up drinking to much wine chatting away. I actually could eat a half a burger on the plate with some coleslaw and potato salad.

My eating has been up and down. I can eat one day and then next nothing will go down. I can drink fine, but there are times I can feel it going through. I thought of an unfill but decided to slow down and chew better. I really don't want to stop the resistance but I don't want a slip either.

Insub, how exciting! I agree with a quick tiny fill now, you will have two weeks to watch it. Are you having days when you can't eat like I said above? if you are having more struggles now than I would not. Ask your doctor if they have any resources for doctors where you are traveling? there are band doctor's around the world if you should have an emergency.

Rhonda, I am sorry for the rough times. what did they say about the future?

Susssie you are as funny as usual. I loved your flip flops, what size are they?

well, need to run, promise to be back... you are all doing great, and Karla, WOW!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
