June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Good Morning Bandsters!

April....I have lived in Houston for 15 years, but before here, I lived in Traverse City, and I'm from Saugatuck, Michigan! Good to meet you!!!!!

Toni! You live in Houston!? My best friend lives down there, I try to make it down at least once a year... this year I'm planning on late September. What part of Houston? My friend lives just inside Houston, near Missouri City. I would love the chance to meet you when I'm there. :P

Question - is anyone else really nervous about starting back on regular foods.

Yes, for many reasons. Today is my 2nd day of "regular foods". Yesterday at lunch I got a piece of sushi stuck and ended up not having dinner while I waited for it to clear. Today I'm trying a wrap, hopefully that works out better than yesterday!

It's easy to lose weight on liquids and avoid temptation "because of surgery". But being back on normal foods has had me stressed out for the same reason I"m sure everyone is. Will I make the right decisions? Will I eat small amounts and not make myself sick? I'm just taking it one day at a time and seeing where it goes. I'm going to stop myself from worrying because that's what brought on my food issues before. Worrying about eating too much always made me eat too much. I know now that I CAN lose weight and that I will if I just make healthy choices. I hope you find the same thing is true for you too!

BTW...I'm soooooo proud of you for procrastinating on the exercise and then ACTUALLY doing it! I procrastinate and then DON'T do it. Ugggggh!

See you in Sept!

Suzzzie that's so funny, I got this mental pic of you agonizing on the couch all evening (like I do) Oh tell me this food thing will be better. I'm 2 weeks post op and now that all the pain is almost gone I feel like nothing happened. I know the fill will change everything but what will I do till then. I am SOOOO pathetic. Why can't I just stick to the rules without the band's help for three weeks. I will be so embarassed if I go for the fill appointment and I've put on weight. Do you all do the three meals no Snacks thing? I'm starving but trying not to eat very much at a time because of stretching etc so then I am hungry an hour later. I have been fighting with my weight since I was 7, will this time be any different? SORRY to be such a cold shower, I am full of fear and doubt today.

Toni, glad to see your humor is still with us!

Vance welcome to a great thread!!

Suzzzie You are amazing. Once I am home I can't see myself going back out again. I am truly impressed. I really need to get back to the gym. My last weight loss success and for a while after I went 4-5 times a week. I enjoyed it, really. But once you fall off the horse, the motivation just stops! I know many of the instructors and the regulars and I am afraid when I go back, they will be saying, " what happened to her!" But I know I need to do it.

Pippz Hang in there about the Portion Control and eating to much. try to let the worry go. I know this is so hard. I was so hungry today after my work, I had to go to the mall to return some things and I walked past to many food places, but I did not buy.

Marga My meals today were: Breakfast: yoplait lowfat yogurt, fruit; Lunch: Lean Quisine, Dinner: pork barbeque ( tons left over from the wedding) and a tablespoon of coleslaw on top. I am not sure that is enough or to much. I know I was hungry at 6. My son's wedding left lots of food around and I am staying away from the bad stuff, but it is hard!

Great work, Nina, Toni, Heather, Insub, dan and all I missed !

I'm totally back to eating TOOOOO much. Went out for Mexican tonight. chips and Salsa? No problem. Haha. Everything goes down fine. I will say that I brought home about 1/3 of my dinner - which never happened from there before. And I'm stuffed. So I guess my band is helping me a little bit. I get my first fill in a little over a week... I can't wait!

And as for me 'procrastinating' before going to the gym at night: Its just the ONLY way I can do it! I can't go right after work cause I lift, tug, push, pull, roll, etc... on human beings all day. I walk all day at work and I'm just generally too tired to even think about going right after work. I just wanna come home and kick off my shoes and cuddle with my fat cat. One I've had a chance to relax a bit I will get up and throw on my work out clothes and go to the gym. Its only about 3 miles from me, and I prefer it at night when no one else is there. I'm still very uncomfortable with the idea of being in a crowded gym and having people see my fat giggle around.

Hi, everyone:

I love reading all the posts - it's my new relaxation tool!

I'm back on solid food now but cannot just eat 1/2 cup of food three times a day - I'm starving and my thoughts turn to the "no-no" foods. So I'm having something mid-morning, and mid-afternoon to get me through - like a smoothie with added Protein or one of the Liquid Protein vials I have bought, or can of Slim-Fast. It really helps.

I have an appointment for my first fill next Thursday and cannot wait.

Count me in the group that does not really enjoy exercising. My DH is being so supportive. Last week we decided we didn't need two guest bedrooms so we sold all the furniture in one and while I am on the road this week he is going to convert it to an exercise room for me - stationary bike, elliptical and home gym as well as a big flat screen HD TV mounted on the wall to entertain me. I guess I will really have to use it now!!! So wish me luck.

Have a great week...

Toni!!! I KNEW I friggin loved you too!! I am SHOCKED that you are a (now outed) closet Zombie fan... but I love it!! He has been my number one for over 10 years now! I CANNOT do the treadmill in front of the tv. I get sooooo bored. I can watch tv all day in the recliner just fine, but cannot exercise!! However, listening to some music that really fires me up helps a lot! Cause you can kinda dance while you walk... or in my case, dance and fall off :guess Anyway, Exercising is going to be my biggest challenge... CAUSE I HATE IT WITH A PASSION!!! Rob just makes it somewhat tolerable...:tired

This is kinda weird...

I had sushi tonight. That makes the second time since my banding. I've been to 2 different places (i have frequently visited both of them pre-banding) and ordered different things at each place (but nothing I haven't had before). WELL.. it tastes different. I have no idea why, but it's not the same... and it's not as good. :cry

Heather-I think my tastebuds have totally changed...it is a bummer. But, I am glad to know I am not the only one.

Question to any/all-how do you know you are stretching your band? I know this probably sounds stupid. Would you feel sick/nausea?

When I had a c-section a couple of years ago, my disolveable stitches stuck out at the ends like y'all's are. My Doc too tweezers and pulled them out at my 6 week check up. You might call your docs and see if it okay to do that too!

It worked! Did it myself! Now they aren't driving me nuts anymore. It was kind of creepy, had to tug a little, but they came right out.

Stuff tastes different to me too... weird huh.

cbm I don't think the band stretches I think the stomach pouch above the band stretches hence feeling of too full, pain and nausea, vomiting etc That stretching of the pouch puts you at risk for slipping the band down as it gets pushed by the too full stomach above it. Correct me if I'm wrong someone but that's what I understood from my surgeon. I am going to stick to 3 meals today, if I don't I am going to tell you all the extra things I ate and I really don't want to do that:o

I pulled mine out from one incision, but the other one the stitch is down really close to the skin. I can feel it, just can't get the tweezers to it! Grrr!

Hello all,

thanks for the words of encouragement regarding the pureed stage. I've found that I really like chilli.

Last night I realized that I still have to battle the "head" munchies. I'm not sure what else to call it. My hubby and I got into a little tiff, well I thought it was a tiff, he seemed to think everything was fine. Anyways, what do I do, I march right down to the kitchen and eat some graham crackers!!!!! YIKES!!!! I had forgotten all about emotional eating til then. It wasn't until I was done with 2 of them that I even realized what I was doing. Another scary thing was that they went down just fine and I wasn't eating slow. I guess I don't have any restriction yet. I guess I'm going to have to try to find something else to do when I get upset, which is better for me anyway.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
