Recommended Posts

Am 8 days post op and just wondering when the rest of you were able to start circuit training? I have no desire to do anything other than walk now, but I am just wondering.

I wasn't cleared for circuit training until 8 weeks out -- but your own team should have their own protocol they want you to follow.

Check with your doctor and do exactly as he/she instructs you to do. Most people can walk from day one but anything more strenuous needs to be at least 6 to 8 weeks. Be kind to your body.... let it heal before going full speed ahead.

Walking at first, 2 pound weights at 4 weeks, five pound weights at 2 months. I could do ten pounds now if I wanted to. One day a week I use weights, the second day I do body resistance. The other days I do a session of Pilates or some aerobic video. I have everything from bedfast to Hip Hop Abs (I am 62) so I won't get bored. I can't wait for an actually warm day to take my exercise outside. We have a big back yard with shade trees where my Sweetie can set up a small outdoor fitness trail for me. It will be great therapy for all my other orthopedic issues, especially since I have some spinal (L2- S1) reconstruction in three weeks (oh dear me. But that is why exercise is so important, even if all you can do is stretch.

I even found that website travelcountry.com where I bought my Vibram Five Finger Walking Shoes for half price. I wish they would advertise on this site. I found them by accident while scooting around on Paleo/Primal websites. Marks Daily Apple marksdailyapple.com has turned out to be very informative for those who might want to pursue a more active lifestyle post-op.

With any abdominal surgery (laparoscopic) , a minimum of 4 weeks with no lifting over 20 lbs. I would just focus on walking until then.

When, I went through surgery after 1 month I started going to walk which really helped to regain my normal life and routine. So, if you want then you can ask any good surgeon who can guide you and tell what and when you can start.

I walked from day 1. My primary workout is Water aerobics. I was cleared for the gym after 2 week, but I had to wait until week 3 to resume water aerobics.

6mths? I would double check. Unless you have problems I don't see why you couldn't resume weight training at 6 weeks.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
