Hungry at 3 days post-op?

Recommended Posts

I'm on puréed (sleeved 4/15) and I am full and satisfied for 2-3 hrs after a few bites of mush. The growling happened to me for the first week or so but now that I'm eating more thicker foods it doesn't do it as much. I very much thought it was hunger but maybe it was just similar sound and feeling- maybe it was just the stomach juices bubbling up and being confused with what was going in. Quite frankly I couldn't tell the difference between farts vs poops, burps vs barfs or anything that was going on inside me until the past few days I haven't felt normal. We need to just stay positive and follow the protocol and we should be fine.

Exactly!! I can't read my stomach at all right now! I'll be really happy when I get all of these new physical feelings sorted out.

Yeah, I wish someone had warned me of "passing gas" -vs- "passing something more". Only took one suprise though. Have had occsional burps, but they were just that. Wierd sensation continues that when I take anything in by mouth, I can feel it slide all the way down my esophagus, then enter my stomach. More pronounced or just more aware of what is going on??? As an RN, I believe all the stomach growlings I experienced the first 1 1/2 weeks was the air they put into your abdominal cavity to do the surgery. Glad mine stayed in my abdomen. Some ppl have shoulder pain, which I hear is quite untolerable. Anyway, I walked that off...bye bye. Now, just drink, drink, drink. : )

"Never trust a fart." It's true, I think we all figured that out pretty quickly. :)

I, too, can feel everything after I swallow go alllllll the way down. It's a strange sensation. "Full" feels a little different, but it's definitely recognizable.

I had the shoulder pain for most of the first week. It was very uncomfortable, but not severe.... Then again I have a pretty high pain tolerance, or I've just been through so much pain in my life my pain scale might be calibrated a little different. :)

I'm an RN too..... What's your specialty?

OCC. get the adrenaline rushes that I crave and miss. haha. Here is my email addy: Margicu@comcast.net My surgery date was 4/15. Notice you are an April Sleever too! Would be great to trade notes!

I had my surgery on April 29th and I didn't have much of an appetite for days. It wasn't until yesterday I started to feel "hungry" but quickly realized that gas pains mimic hunger pains and I just focused on sipping (as it relieves gas) and trying to move around.

I was also sleeved on the 29th and I think I felt hunger today. Nagging painful stomach growling. I are some sherbert and the pain went away! I'm starting puréed tomorrow and we will see if it goes away with something a little more filling.

You are started puréed already?? That seams awfully soon for being sleeved last week. I was on liquids than yogurts and applesauce for a week, I wasn't allowed puréed til week 3. Be careful jumping that fast...

Same here. Clear Liquids for a week, now I'm on full liquids for a week before I get to start purees X2 weeks before moving on. Strange how different docs do different things. I figure I may lose weight a little faster than those who get to advance faster than me. That's my consolation. :)

Hi. I am 11 days post op and the only thing I can have ( much less tolerate) are clear fluids and cottage cheese. I don't go on purred foods until next week which would be week two. I get heartburn with anything more food like than cottage cheese. BTW, not a nurse but worked in health care for more than 20 years.

I was on full liquids for 2 weeks starting the first day home. All that tummy growling is your body trying to re-absorp all that air. I remember thinking: How can I have gas when I'm only drinking fluids? HaHa. I started pureed Thursday. Not easy. I remember having to feed elderly Pts early in my nursing career and the smell and appearance of pureed = ICK! I made a boiled egg, then pulverized it with a TBSP of plain yogurt (instead of mayo). Not bad. Like egg salad. Pulverized some ham salad. Too salty. Going to pulv. 95% lean hamburger meatloaf (ketchp on top cut off). Hoping the appearance doesn't ruin the taste. Hate yogurt but convinced myself I HAVE to like Chiobani Key Lime. No chunks! I think the slower you progress thru phases, the more you will lose too. My Dr. put me on Pepcid for 6 months. : ) No heartburn.

My diet is full liquids and Protein shakes from day 1 to day 4 post op then starting day 5 I can have puréed foods. This week I'm going to stick with cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce, and maybe some baby foods. Just soft puréed foods. I may have some refried Beans too. And Protein Shakes of course....I'm not liking them much this week. They all taste like crap. Too many in my Preop diet I guess.

Then after 2 weeks on puréed I can start soft food that I have to chew. Then after 1-2 weeks tolerating that alright I can go to a regular diet. These are my surgeons orders. Not my made up ones! ;-)

I'm 4 days out and I was HUNGRY starting the day after my surgery!! have been craving every thing under the sun. I'm on clear liquids until tomorrow when I can start my Protein drinks back up. I don't feel well as I'm in some pain and trying to figure out my Water intake.

Anyways...I want chicken. Lol

I am 3 days post op and my Doc has me on 60 grams of Protein along with my clear liquids.. This has really helped me with having no hunger pains. I guess each doctor is different.

I'm 2 weeks post op and have to do liquids for one more week (thank god!). But I'm still kind of hungry after Soup or 8oz of Protein Drink. Anyone else feel the same way? Hopefully I will be full when I start the purée stage

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
