5 wks out and stll in stall!

Recommended Posts

This is my first post so I'm very anxious about putting myself out there. I should start by saying that I've lost a total of 21 lbs but most of this weight was from pre op. I am stressing myself out about not losing that I don't even want to eat any more. I am still hungry all the time. I take more pills than I did preop, my hair is already falling out, I cry all the time for no reason, my acne is back, I walk at least 2x a week ( long walks) but fall asleep before I can shed out of my workout clothes, AND I have nothing to show for it! I have not gained and everyone says my body is just adjusting and is about to start losing some major weight....uhhh, it's been 5 weeks! No weight loss really? And I just got started! What if I never lose weight? I'm so confused! My co workers try to be supportive by saying "I think I see it in your face". I don't believe them. I'm just so confused/angry/sad! Anybody out there not lose right away? How is this possible? I can only eat a few bites of anything!

What does your Dr. Say?? That seems to defy every law of the human body. What is your estimated caloric intake per day?? Were all your other functions normal? i. e. Thyroid. You must be consuming way less than pre-op. I can't even wrap my head around that.

I know exactly how you feel. I am 10 weeks out and it has been so slow. I have started to see a difference lately. I was always so tired. I would get my son off to school and go back to sleep for an hour. Now I started getting dressed and going to the gym as soon as he leaves. I have not had any problems with my surgery. No pain, no gas, no problems with eating or drinking. It is just coming off so slowly. I question if it will work. I have a long way to go.

I see a lot of specialists concerning a condition I have called inter cranial hypertension which pushes on my optic nerves that cause all sorts of damages in my eyes and head. No thyroid issues (been checked several times), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, early set diabetes, and I started at 196.4 lbs. My blood work showed normal ranges of Vitamins ( a little low on Vitamin D) but other than that, nothing sticks out. All my medical problems would go away by losing weight. Even my pseudo tumor (inter cranial hypertension) in my head. Everyone says it will take time. I have yet to see anyone move as slow as me!

Oh and I drink my fluids plus more each day since I sweat when I think Im going to exercise. Now Protein Shakes don't agree with me. I have thrown up every brand listed and have spent a lot of money. I have donated all my shakes so I compensate by buying any foods high in Protein. Yogurt, cottage cheese, Beans, Soups (I add unflavored protein to anything I can) ,

Oh and pooping is never an issue! I keep track and I have never had to take anything. Things are moving along there!

Try a hydrolyzed whey. It's super easy going down and is absorbed by the body really fast. I use platinum hydro whey. You can mix it with Water and it stays thin even with milk it's thin and you get ten more grams op P. I found it to be more agreeable than those thick pre mixed shakes like premier or pure Protein.

At 1 week postoperative I had good loss. From that time till my next follow up which was 4 weeks later I lost very little. And I started MUCH heavier than you. The answer? Protein, protein, protein. As soon as I started getting all my protein in the scale started moving again. I will also add that I can now dink protein supplements that I couldn't in my fist couple of weeks post op. I do use a straw.....that helps a LOT. Good luck to you !

Thanks for the replays. I will try the hydro whey. I tried a Protein Shake again w very little powder and milk and got sent home bc I threw up all over my shirt at work. (This was yesterday) I'm embarrassed. I told everyone about my wls. Maybe I should have waited. People think I'm crazy bc other co workers are on diets and have passed me up. They are very smug that they could do it without surgery. I feel like a fool and I even question if the surgery even happened.

Shelly, it sounds like you are going through some depression here. Please be patient, the weight loss is coming. everyone's body is different and yours may be in in panic mode at the extreme loss of calories and thinks you are starving, which causes the weight to not go down. Keep drinking your Water and increase the Protein but try to exercise more than twice a week. If you could do 30 minutes every day it would make a big difference. You will see big changes coming, you're just a little slower coming out of the gate. Try to remain positive and get moving. If you don't have a scheduled doctor's appointment then make one. The doctor might need to review a few things that might be going on with you. Everyone's health issues are different and all need their own medical approach. Your doctor and nutritionist should be able to help you with yours. Good luck and will keep you in my prayers.

Seriously go see your doctor. That;s what they're paid for. Does he have a medical team to see you post op? Do you have a nutritionist? If you don't ask him to recommend one that knows about working with the sleeve. You shouldn't have to go through this alone. Don't lat it escalate into a majoy psychological problem.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
