Looking for others interested in organic, alternative, holistic approaches to their new life

Recommended Posts

I don't see much about this topic in forums. I'm looking to connect with like minded people or discuss these interests with anyone else interested. I envision my new life with lots of clean eating, organic whole foods, meditation, rebounding, yoga, spending time in nature, oil pulling, juicing, dry brushing, etc. I've already dabbled in it over the years, but want to take it much more seriously (although not too seriously) - if that makes sense to someone, we are kindred souls and I'd love to connect. :-)

I, too, have some intrest here. I'm not a fanatic about organic. I consider myself a bit large for yoga. I have started meditation. Interested in clean eating. Please feel free to comment. I'm about 7.5 months post sleeve.

Hi Doug,

I am too big right now for yoga too, but as soon as I feel I can do it, I want to start again. I have done yoga for a couple of months at a time, a few different times in the past, before I got bigger. I think I just want to feel I am not squandering this opportunity. I want to make the most of it and I need a giant change in lifestyle. But, I also don't want to obsess about it.

So nice to find someone else with some interest in this area. :)

Hi - I'd be interested in this thread. Great idea.

We eat where we can organic fruit, vege and meat. I'm not at this point wanting to go vegetarian although some of our meals are - I try to balance it out alternating vegetarian, white meat, fish/seafood and red meat (pre op of course).

I practice TM meditation - twice a day for twenty minutes each. I see a naturopath for health issues especially where I am not comfortable with the big Pharma solutions or should I say 'masking of symptoms'. I'd love to get back into Callinetics as I used to do this many moons ago and found I liked it better than yoga.

I too want to be more consistent in my overall health and well being. Now I have a tool for assisting me with Portion Control I do believe I can do it - it would be nice to discuss and share from time to time too :-)

Even 13 days post op my foods are organic drinking yoghurt, organic and non-organic Soups with home made chicken broth made from organic chickens. It hasn't been that much more expensive to shop organic considering my portion sizes are so much smaller it kind of balances out to what I would otherwise spend.

I use coconut oil on my skin and for cooking - I haven't tried pulling with it yet. Have you?

Hi! I have always been a fan of alternative health and eastern medicine.

I was actually really really mourning the fact that my last resort was using western medicine! Like I seriously was depressed that none of the other things I did worked.

I used to do yoga a lot but my belly was so in my way I was uncomfortable. I think I'm going to try again with gentle yoga.

I also work with a hypnotherapist who does Reiki and energy work for me.

I want to get a meditation practice going. I know I need to rebuild my spiritual life if I'm going to keep this weight off.

Hey. I'm down. I've done all sorts of alternative practices over the years -fasting, colonics, juicing, etc. I see a naturopath and acupuncturist for primary care. I'm currently looking into the diamond approach to bolster my waning spiritual practices.

What is the diamond approach?

I get acupuncture now and then and see a chiropractor. I need to find a new one actually.

Quick comment here… you're never too large for yoga. I used to teach modified hatha years ago. I even toyed around with opening up my own studio called "Living Large Yoga" for people who felt they were too big.

A decent yoga instructor will know modifications to any pose. I say go for it!

Be well…

I do follow an organic, whole food diet. It has made a HUGE difference in me and my families life. It helped with my Hoshimotos (hypothyroid) PCOS and weight loss. We recently switched my 4 year old to a non-gluten diet which seems to have made a difference. We still eat Cookies and regular food..I just make them with non-gmo, organic stuff. I buy from the farmers market, the organic section in the grocery store and order some in bulk online. I WILL NEVER GO BACK to all of the processed junk. All of the synthetic ingredients, pesticides, preservatives cause you to hold onto weight and mess with your mind and body. It just deteriorates your health. It does take more effort and if you don't know were to look it can cost more $$ but overall it costs us about the same or less because we dont' eat out much. My breaking point was some yahoo article about the grossest ingredients in your food that you don't know about and then the PINK SLIME in meat....yuck. Just sickened me. I found 100 Days of Real Food and it opened up a whole new world and way of thinking for me. I think combined with the sleeve it will work wonders.

Caution: Its like taking the red pill from the Matrix....once you embark on learning the truth about food, "fat free", Monsanto, big food industry it is hard to go back. Everything we have been taught and think we know is the opposite.

For example: REAL, grass-fed, hormone free, pesticide free, organic BUTTER is actually good for you. Its not a new found theory....our parents, grandparents, great grandparents new their farmers and fixed their own food and new what was in it.

I am so glad there are others out there with this interest! I was beginning to think I was the only one! I haven't been sleeved yet but started this new transition last August (it hasn't been super easy) and slowly it has made a huge difference in our lives. I have tons of resources so if anyone is interested feel free to just holler!

Hi, I'm pre-sleeve. I have my surgery in about 3 weeks. Just waiting for my date. I have already planned in treating my new stomach better with better foods. I was told to eat stage 1 baby food when u can introduce good in again and I've been checking out organic baby food. I want to start my new stomach off on the right nite. I abused my stomach by not eating and skipping meals to loose weight for too many years. I look forward to a new beginning. As for yoga and stuff, I have a failed spine and am unable to participate in those kind of activities. I do meditate tho. Have for tears. Helps with the pain. Along with the morphine, lol,

Since post surgery I use cold processed natural whey Protein from organically raised grass fed cows (no GM) made locally in Australia - Mirrabooka, not sure if it's available outside Australia. I have heard Protein 17 being used by another sleever on another site. Hope that helps :-)

Thanks, I just tried Source Organic Whey Protein ( I ordered it online, it is produced in northern CA from pasture fed cow milk organic and non GMO) which I liked, it tastes like milk when mixed with Water, I added peaches and vanilla in the blender and was pleased.

Will continue to investigate.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
